To ask what news is not being discussed because of Cameron's pub incident?

What news are we missing today? Anything we should be talking about but is not on the news agenda because of Cameron's pub incident?

Levieson?
Announcement on troublesome families?

Or am I just being cynical about the timing / leaking of this announcement?

Maybe it's this opinion poll

Are you suggesting the government is managing the news agenda by leaving their own children stranded in public eateries to distract journalists from other stories?

Or that journalists shouldn't be writing about the story at all?

cory · 11/06/2012 12:30

The actual leaving behind happened some time ago so it's the actual leak of the story today rather than some other day that might call for an explanation. Several possible scenarios:

*absolutely no news in the paper so journalist desperate

*news of a genuine story that might damage the Opposition- so they try to divert attention away from themselves

*news of a genuine story that might do far more damage to the Government so they try to focus on this non-news to divert attention away from the heavy stuff

Could be any of those as far as I can see.

BlackOutTheSun · 11/06/2012 12:34

Its a news story to make it a good day to bury bad news.

Brown is on Leveson today.

I doubt that the Government placed the Cameron story. It is clear however that the press have been sitting on this story for about a fortnight, so running it today does indicate a deliberate choice.

Is there anything other than Leveson that was scheduled for today, or known about by the time the papers went to press last night?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 11/06/2012 12:42

It is Leveson-related, I'd have thought that was obvious. "You bad-mouth us and we release embarrassing stories like this".... etc.

Belleflowers · 11/06/2012 13:08

or this:

'But at a time of austerity and a bleak jobs market, and with the Tories vulnerable to the charge of being out of touch, any attempt to target the poorest people risks looking insensitive'

Ususally you find news of an energy hike buried somewhere amongst the rest of the news like this.

Christelle2207 · 11/06/2012 15:17

Have watched three tv news pieces with correspondents reporting from outside said pub. Given that they looked after the child, I bet they're loving the publicity!

I'd take a different view and wonder who Cameron has annoyed that the press choose to release this story at all

mothmagnet · 11/06/2012 15:43

I think they're pretty desperate to deflect attention from Osborne at Leveson.

I wonder what 'massive' story they're saving for Thursday?
