To pay more for a laptop just so that it won't be red.

Or take a lower spec just so it won't be red. RED!

My current laptop is 5 1/2 yrs old and working kind of ok except for an ominous looking crack in the casing which is flexing and growing and can't be taped up as it's right near the fan. Grrrr... We've decided to get me a replacement early enough to transfer data etc and use this one for the kids as it's probably got another year of use as long it's on a table and not knees. But I'm irritated at having to spend the money earlier than we'd hoped and battling my desire to have something that will last another 6yrs min with my love of spending as little as possible. Grrrr again. And I'm irritated that Dell isn't doing what I'm looking for as their warranty turned out to be brilliant value and I'd stick with them if I could. Grrrr.

Anyway - lots of narrowing down and now I'm kind of ready to buy except the very best deal from a seller I know is a RED one. RED. Even the bits surrounding the keyboard are RED. I'm a bit susceptible to colour and deliberately went for white with my current laptop so it wouldn't be so looming. Can I really live with RED for the next 6 years? RED? It's a nice red really, and maybe it will just become my normal or I'll stop noticing or I'm making a silly mountain out of a molehill.

OR I could take a risk and buy from saveonlaptops.co.uk and get a black or blue one at the same price, same spec.

I hate spending money. And vacillating.

So - AIBU?

your being a bit precious regarding the redness i think, its a good deal so i dont see why the colour is whats stopping you? i mean its not like its a setee or anything, its a laptop that will be out of the way most of the time mine gets shoved under the setee most of the time
im sure you could cope with a red laptop for a while

McHappyPants2012 · 08/06/2012 00:27

op bless you, get the red laptop then just buy a skin for it approx £5 on ebay

geegee888 · 08/06/2012 00:32

tbh I would have thought you would pay MORE for a red laptop! Surely its only the outside thats red, the keyboard etc won't be red? Anyway, you'll get used to it.

McHappyPants2012 · 08/06/2012 00:34

whats the specs

Nuttyprofessor · 08/06/2012 00:47

The last time I bought a laptop I was offered a fantastic deal which I turned down because it was the wrong colour. The salesperson thought it was hilarious. I knew It would bother me.

The fact you ask the question makes me think it would bother you. It is not good to spend a lot of money and feel disappointed with what you have bought.

Gentleness · 08/06/2012 00:47

I'm not bothered about the outside at all - it's the fact the redness is surrounding the keyboard that's bothering me - can't avoid it! Can you get skins for the inside?

I think I would get used to it, but now I've found saveonlaptops a whole new world of options has opened which is why I am not currently asleep. I can get BLUE! I like.

It's an Acer laptop. Specs for the 5750 model are i5 processor (i3 is available too), options between 4 and 8gb ram, options between 500 and 1000gb hdd. I know it's all more than I need now, and really I'd rather go for a smaller model (4830T) with better battery life but dh has brought all this future-proofing into the conversation and thinks the i5 is significantly better than the i3 - not going to be an option for that model. Did that make sense to anyone else out there? I would love to be all relaxed about buying without research!

Dh and I fell out becauae he insisted bought the black one when I wanted the red (black was cheaper). Want to swap? Grin

MrsRhettButler · 08/06/2012 00:49

I always wanted that lime green one was it DELL did?

Gentleness · 08/06/2012 01:06

Hmm - lime green? It might mean I wasted less time faffing - that has to be good right?

It's very beautiful

Gentleness · 08/06/2012 12:09

It's morning. I have STILL not decided. What is this insane urge to buy the best there is when it's better than you need? Go away irrationality.

I have a red laptop. It's dark, glossy and I love it. Smile

5Foot5 · 08/06/2012 13:32

We bought a Toshiba recently that is a sort of deep red. I think it is very stylish

Gentleness · 08/06/2012 14:19

But don't you feel a bit more tense all the time typing with red in your eyeline?

Laptop snob! Grin I paid an extra £30 to get a purple laptop. Next time, I'm going for something even better, perhaps red!!
