To think I should have been consulted...

Before ILs gave DH a skydive voucher for his birthday?

We have 3 dc under 7 and an 21wks pg with dc4. I don't know whether this is hormones blowing risk out of proportion....

Am severely miffed because the idea of even a tiny risk is too much right now! So...AIBU??

YABU

GooseRocks · 07/06/2012 15:09

YABU.

AnyoneForTennis · 07/06/2012 15:10

Yabu..... What are you worried about??

Proudnscary · 07/06/2012 15:10

Do you allow him to cross roads?

alphabite · 07/06/2012 15:10

They shouldn't have to consult you about a present. YABU. He will be absolutely fine but I can understand why you'd worry. FWIW I've done lots of sky dives and have loved every one! Never so much as a scratch after any of them.

fruitysummer · 07/06/2012 15:11

YABU and I'd blame it on your hormones??

He's got more chance of being run over by a bus (god forbid obviously)

SmileItsSunny · 07/06/2012 15:11

Sorry, I think your hormones may be a little out of control...! Yabu. But I can understand where you are coming from.

Sirzy · 07/06/2012 15:11

Why would they consult you?

Is it something they know he wants to do? If so sounds very generous of them

AceOfBase · 07/06/2012 15:12

Yes yabu but such is the right of the pregnant lady. Or at least that is what I have told dh (i too am 15 wks unreasonable :o)

TheMonster · 07/06/2012 15:12

I see where you are coming from but it's your hormones worrying Smile

FunnyLovesTheJubilee · 07/06/2012 15:14

actually I think YANBU. If your DC is under 7 as your OP suggests then I think they should at least have asked for your opinion. I don't think I'd be happy with DS1 doing this and he is 6

LeeCoakley · 07/06/2012 15:14

YABVU.
I'd do my flipping nut if my mum was going to buy me a special present and dp vetoed it.

Sirzy · 07/06/2012 15:14

It's her dh not her Ds!

alphabite · 07/06/2012 15:15

FunnylovestheJubilee - it's not the children doing it! It's her husband!

lurkedtoolong · 07/06/2012 15:17

I think YABalittleU. But can also understand your concern. Is the voucher dated? Would you be happier if DH agreed to wait until DC4 was a couple of months old?

AnyoneForTennis · 07/06/2012 15:18

Why does it matter if dc are under 7? What's so different if they are under 11,16,18 etc?

valiumredhead · 07/06/2012 15:18

YABU.

TiddlesTheNaughtyTortoise · 07/06/2012 15:18

YABU. I too agree it's the hormones.

Turn it around - would you think it was OK forr your ILs to be upset you'd bought their son a sky dive without consulting them? He's their child after all.

Congratulations on dc4 btwGrin

KellyElly · 07/06/2012 15:19

I see where you are coming from as it is a dangerous sport and there is an element of risk - but then there is with driving a car and lots of normal stuff. I don't think they should have had to consult you over what present to buy their son, but your partner should discuss it with you if it is something you really don't want him to do.

GinPalace · 07/06/2012 15:20

YABU i'd just be miffed they didn't get me one too for after baby born Grin

Bearhugs43 · 07/06/2012 15:21

I wouldn't have vetoed it. Just feel concerned about something (which I have no experience of admittedly) that seems risky. If something went wrong as it were, not only would we lose him, but as it is excluded from any insurances, also our home and our livelihood. It seems an irresponsible thing to do that's all - I wouldn't dream of taking that sort of risk personally .

And no, he has never even thought about doing one before, they have just run out of b'day ideas!

Ok so will accept AIBU and blame hormones then.

Who cares if YABU - I would be unreasonably fed up too. Mainly because my in-laws know perfectly well I am more fragile about risks during pregnancy (this is my third) and I'd expect them to care enough about me to at least warn me ahead of giving the voucher. It's not hard to work out or to take just a little extra trouble to be kind with each other. I bet if it hadn't been a surprise you would be a bit calmer about it.

QueenOfTheGymBunny74 · 07/06/2012 15:26

YABU
Thank god for MN! :o

CrispyCod · 07/06/2012 15:26

YANBU but that's my opinion.

Extreme sports would be out of the question.

corlan · 07/06/2012 15:29

I think it's your hormones.

Skydiving is very safe (as long as you have a parachute)
