ro feel Dh has crossed a line in poncetastic parenting?

Festival - that was DD's nickname from day 1, given to her by the midwives in hospital we are actually in Germany so I think I lose poncetastic points due to the fact that she is just bilingual

I'm scared to try and translate books myself. But we have a load of poncetastic Christmas books. we read a Christmas story every night in December (usually now as well as a chapter of a Enid Blyton/Roald Dahl etc).

My downfall was getting a brainwave 3 years ago (she was learning a little Italian in creche and I speak reasonable french so she wanted to do some of that too at home) - to get a Christmas story in french. 24 petit souris - qui prepare quelque chose different chaque bloody jour. And not only do we have to read it many many nights in December (it starts by reading the 1st on the 1st, and should be 1 page per day - but we have to re-read all previous pages too), but first I have to read it en francais, and then I have to translate it backwards to english.

Which I'd live with except that she won't let me even talk french the rest of the time and learn any bit herself to use!!

French books for kids? You uncultured people have obviously never come across these delightful childrens' stories....

I've never tried to translate our own books - mind, we don;t really speak any other languages to be fair.

But when we visit a place abroad with another language we always buy a children's book there to bring home. Have a range here esp in french and Spanish. Do have one about a ,ole and/or a zoo in Czech too - that one's tricky!

Last year I bought DS (age 4) the Usbourne 100 First words in French. It was his choice! He was determined and he loves it. From a secondhand bookshop as well. (very poncetastic)

Does DH know that Usborne already do some of the 'That's Not My ...' books in French?

I, too, am bilingual. Never thought to translate the DCs books into my native tongue. Off now to translate Beatrice Potter into Glaswegian.

I inadvertently bought my son a French Woody off E bay ( cheapo ), when you pull his string he says French stuff - my middle class friends thought I was very Poncetastic

Oh god no, stop running stories through google translate, you're not doing your kids any favours, just buy the sodding book in another language (all the "that's not my..." ones are available in French from Amazon). I really must insist: you are not teaching your kids French, you are teaching them a few random words strung together with an occasionally accurate sense of syntax.

I wish I could shoot my pupils for using google translate on their assignments (English teacher in France).

I have a book about vehicles written in Estonian, from Estonia. Would be great if I had any clue how to pronounce the words. I don't, so I just say the English anyway.
