to think that if the cat has brought a mouse in then the poor little thing is as good as dead already...

and I probably shouldn't try and save it?

Cat and mouse have both been shooed out and cat flap locked.

It is doomed, isn't it?

Well if you sent them out together then it's doomed. My mum used to get them off the cats when they came in and she did manage to save some of them.

Poor wee soul. Let kitty do its job - stepping in now will only make things worse. Unless you are a dab hand with a shovel . . .

PissyDust · 05/06/2012 22:27

We had this a few weeks ago and DD rescued the poor thing but it died.

I would have just let the cat get in with it as well.

Birdsgottafly · 05/06/2012 22:29

I throw my cats out to finish them off, i think that it is kinder.

CrispyCod · 05/06/2012 22:29

Try your best to save it, it might not be too late. Our kitty brought one in some time ago, the poor little thing was in shock. We managed to save it and release it into the garden. Chances are kitty hasn't actually hurt it that much, it playing with it.

I dunno, I've rescued field mice from my Mother's cats that have been lively enough to leap out of my hands into the hedgerow. Maybe that leap is their last hurrah but I've always erred on the side of giving the poor things a chance.

Our cat brought a live mouse into the house a few days ago. I managed to shoo cat plus mouse in mouth out but, despite trying to free the mouse, our cat toyed with her for more than 3 hours until she eventually killed it Sad.

And then she killed 2 blackbirds.....

Now she has 4 bells on her collar to give the poor wildlife a chance!
