There is a woman at work who does this. Any time that somebody mentions something, anything related to their time at uni she trumps up "Well I went to the university of life!" Er, so you've been alive?

Rant over.

OP posts:
Psammead · 05/06/2012 15:06

Yes because we all know you gain absolutely no life experience at university.

YANBU.

RandomNumbers · 05/06/2012 15:07

Oh dear

Did YOU go to Uni? Took Etymology perhaps?

Psammead · 05/06/2012 15:09

Don't be a meany pants, Ran.

Trills · 05/06/2012 15:10

YANBU to want to strangle them.

I don't advise that you actually do it though.

By the way you don't need an apostrophe in "uses".

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 05/06/2012 15:14

Get over it OP. I bet you know all about the theory of Relativity but can't change a lightbulb, you in yer Ivory Tower etc. etc.

Trills · 05/06/2012 15:15

How does one get an ivory tower?

How big would the elephant have to be to be able to make a tower out of its tusk?

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 05/06/2012 15:16

It's a metaphorical tower. And therefor a metaphorical elephant, which is as big as you blardy well care to imagine.

TheVermiciousKnid · 05/06/2012 15:16

Getting planning permission for an ivory tower is terribly difficult. :(

Trills · 05/06/2012 15:18

Must be a bloody large metaphorical elephant.

Is it a white elephant?

Or is it the elephant in the room?

Or a different metaphorical elephant?

If it's in the room then it must be a big room to house an elephant whose tusk is big enough to make an ivory tower.

Sleepydog · 05/06/2012 15:18

Well at least going to the 'university of life ' there's no student debt .

Unfortunately going to university nowadays is nothing special and doesn't guarantee a job.

Perhaps stop harping on about your time at uni and get on with your job Grin

Tortington · 05/06/2012 15:20

ive got an ivory tower - i wanted magnolia but i hired someone from the university of life

TalcAndTurnips · 05/06/2012 15:24

Well what about all the poor people living in the town of Life (Lancs)?

They're fiercely proud of their university, despite the bad press it always gets.

One of the more popular undergraduate courses it offers is the 3 year BA(Hons) in Jeremy Kyle Studies, along with Staying In Bed Until Loose Women Comes On.

StuckintheBellJar · 05/06/2012 15:30

Just seems that prentending that three years of my life didn't happen, is va bit extreme to protect a silly moo's ego...

OP posts:
Tortington · 05/06/2012 15:33

she feels inferior

so just pat her on the head and say "aww"

AGiraffeUnderTheFloorBoards · 05/06/2012 15:36

Someone I worked with used to say this all the time if anyone talked about their time at Uni. I reckon she got a 3rd though.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 05/06/2012 15:37

or just totally play up to it. Stick your front teeth out, walk like Upper Class Twit of the year, regularly jam the photocopier, she'll get all her preconceptions supported and her happiness and therefore self-esteem will rise as a result.

Katiepoes · 05/06/2012 15:38

I can ignore that. Using 'uni' I can't. Users of such abbreviations need to stop it now.

FrothyOM · 05/06/2012 15:38

Next time she pipes up say:

" I am alive so I've been to the university of life too. Plus, I have a degree in ..."

See what she says. Grin

KateSpade · 05/06/2012 15:39

What do you mean about Lancashire Talc

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 05/06/2012 15:39

Talc meant Norwich

MrsBucketxx · 05/06/2012 16:17

yabu bog off with ya desmond,

you really don't need a degree to get on life.

the non uni types where having just as much fun as you, and getting paid. before i had my dc's i earned just as much as those without a degree cause i had mountains of experience.
