I know it'd then go to Harry but what if Kate were pregnant, would it then go back to the child once he/she were born?

yes Choufleur we do, but lets hope they die in a hot summer rather than rain so that we can all get outside and do stuff, rather than inside ..... with the heating on ...... in june!

sashh · 06/06/2012 04:53

"I doubt andrew would want it.. too much responsibility.. but he maybe wouldnt be above trying to grab it for Beatrice."

Do you think Andrew and Fegie are trying to get Harry and Beatrice together? Then plan to ..................

We should all get together and write a book.

meditrina · 06/06/2012 09:26

They had all many of the Royals together (and out in the open) for Diana's funeral. A shooter from the crowd would certainly have taken it to the York princesses becoming next in line.

Normally someone has to have been born in order to own anything (whether property or title), but there is a provision "ventre de sa mere" which may cover an unborn but acknowledgeable (?) child who would be heir had they already been born.

Kayano · 06/06/2012 09:31

Crown how about you read?

Kate and camilla survived. We are taking in relation to Kate being pregnant. I never said Kate or camilla could inherit the throne because I am not stupid.

Kayano · 06/06/2012 09:33

And I also said that the rumours about Harry's legitimacy was untrue... But you can bet in this country the issue would still be raised

AnitaBlake · 06/06/2012 10:09

I think legitimacy is always checked as far as ut can be, it was only Henry VIII change to succession that ensured Mary and Elizabeth took the throne. I'd also heard that the Queen Mother had to effectively prove that she wasn't pregnant before Elizabeth could succeed her father. If Queen Mum had been pg they would have had to wait until the baby was born to declare the next monarch, most likely with our current Queen and her mum ruling jointly until the succession was decided.

I would imagine if the Queen, Charles and William were to die with Catherine pregnant, she and Harry would share the Regency (with Harry named Prince Regent) until Catherine's baby reached age if majority and was able to rule in its own right.

If Catherine was pg in that scenario the sex of the offspring would be immaterial and it would be the first, and so automatically take the throne.

PandaWatch · 06/06/2012 11:10

I'm not exactly sure of the order of succession but I do know that at some point John Goodman would become king.

lunamoon · 06/06/2012 11:16

I had no idea that a girl of William would be Queen, I assumed her brother would be first in line.
If the Queen and Charles died now why would it not be Andrew who is King, as he is the monarch's son rather than just the monarch's grandson.

lunamoon · 06/06/2012 11:19

Crown-I think you are right. Catherine and Camilla are not royalty as such. They are only married into the family and would not be Queen without their husband.

McKayz · 06/06/2012 11:20

Luna, because Charles is first in line to the throne and then any children he has become second and third in line. It is/was the oldest born male and then his children. William and Harry would have to die before Andrew would become King.

McKayz · 06/06/2012 11:21

Is it wrong to think that having Zara as Queen would be quite funny as then Mike Tindell would be like Prince Phillip?

I think Mike would be great.

HRHCavey · 06/06/2012 11:22

Luna, the succession follows the bloodline, so William and Harry outrank Andrew because they are the sons of the future King.
Andrew was second in line up until 1982, when William was born.

lunamoon · 06/06/2012 11:25

Right that clears that up!
Just as an asdide my dd (15) asked why Harry has ginger hair and doesn't look like Charles!!!!!

McKayz · 06/06/2012 11:27

I have always thought that Harry looks like Diana's brother. Picture

HRHCavey · 06/06/2012 11:31

Harry looks like a young Prince Philip and many of Diana's relatives have ginger hair.

Ithinkitsjustme · 06/06/2012 11:49

If anything happened to William, then Harry would take the throne, after a wait to prove that Kate was not pregnant. If she was then her child would become monarch with a regency (probably consisting of a few members of the Royal Family) and the head Regent (most likely Harry) taking the place of the Monarch in all official capacities until they reached 18 (or possibly 16). The line of succession reaches far beyond Anne and her children, it then goes to Princess Margarets children and grandchildren, then back up to the younger brother of the Queens Father and his descendants etc. If a line becomes extinct then it goes back further up the family tree.

HRHCavey · 06/06/2012 12:06

Wills and Harry are my [counts on fingers] 13th cousins, twice removed, on their mums side. Where does that put me in the line of succession? Grin

[wonders how many people would have to fall off their perch before I get to be Queen]

Ithinkitsjustme · 06/06/2012 12:39

HRH - I think you'd need a major disaster for you to be in with a chance Wink

lunamoon · 06/06/2012 12:49

HRH-That either sounds very close or not close at all!!!!!
I didn't think you counted after second cousin or half cousin.
My grandma was one of 12 children so I guess I am related to lots of people that I don't know.

Sleepydog · 06/06/2012 12:53

If Will dies then Harry could marry Kate ! They do that them royals do ! Grin

rarebreed · 06/06/2012 12:55

Interesting question about Charles acting as regent if the Queen was very ill. Do you think it would be 'official' or he would just take over more and more duties?

Ithinkitsjustme · 06/06/2012 13:10

wonders how many fingers HRH has Wink

Ithinkitsjustme · 06/06/2012 13:12

I think it would be unofficial unless she could no longer carry on any of her dutues then it would become official. So as she gets older, I think he will take over more of her duties, but if she bedridden then he would probably become regent.

HRHCavey · 06/06/2012 14:49

[practises Royal wave]

Luna, to put it in perspective, we shared a common ancestor called William Johnston who died at the Battle of Flodden in 1513 [cough] rebellious Scot [cough] Wink

RustyBear · 06/06/2012 14:55

If you're related on their mum's side, it doesn't count...
