Brilliant! I love it when marketing doesn't travel! I worked on a sleep drug that was first launched in the US. They sent us their marketing materials and they were all based around 3 consecutive photos of a bloke in bed in different positions. And the caption?

"Wakefull? Restless? Tosser?"

There's a whole genre devoted to cocked-up advertising campaigns that don't transfer from one country to another, Endless fun!

FC- they have specialists on many TNCs advertising teams now checking for "linguistic and cultural differences" to avoid embarrassing situations which might be funny to us but not to those whose bank balances depend on the product being more than a laughing stock.

This stuff used to be on late night telly, can't remember for the life of me who presented it, ads from round the world but mainly ones with words/phrases that meant something quite different in English. Can anyone help?

If their bank balances depend on it, then they ought to do the research and involve the indigenous people of the country that they are promoting goods in.
Like the basic errors of not knowing that some languages, e.g. Arabic, are written from right to left.
