Phone books what a waste of paper!

Surely in the 21st Century people should be asked if they want a telephone book rather than being automatically given one. Just had a new one posted in the letterbox and it is going to go straight in the recycling. Wouldn't it be be better to have some kind of opt out system. I use the internet to look up everything I need, I haven't used a phone book in years.

I know some people will come up with some interesting uses for them, but still what a waste of paper.

I know, I ditch all mine without ever using them. I wish you had to opt into them - it makes me feel so guilty but they're not even recyclable.

LadyTeeAndBiscuits · 04/06/2012 15:29

They absolutely are useless. I agree.

GetTheeToBuckinghamPalace · 04/06/2012 16:23

Totally agree. Google is the new phone book.

CrispyCod · 04/06/2012 17:25

YANBU

Totally agree

ZuzuBailey · 04/06/2012 17:57

Mine goes straight into the recycling too. YANBU

McHappyPants2012 · 04/06/2012 18:00

Yanbu what a waste in this day and age of technology

sensuallettuce · 04/06/2012 18:13

Agree.

alphabite · 04/06/2012 18:15

Completely agree. I can't think of the last time I used a phone book but it must be at least a decade ago.

DressDownFriday · 04/06/2012 18:15

Agree.

I always check that I'm not in it (ex directory) and then recycle.

Pascha · 04/06/2012 18:18

I just checked, you can opt out of receiving a phone book! See here about halfway down the page.

Pinkiemum · 04/06/2012 19:35

Pascha I will have to check if I can do it in the Netherlands, does that mean you can opt out of Thomsan local as well?

OP posts:
ZuzuBailey · 05/06/2012 19:04

Thanks for that Pascha. You'd think in this day and age you could email though.

LabMonkey · 05/06/2012 21:00

If you phone BT they can take you off the distribution list. I only did it a couple of weeks ago so I'm yet to see if they'll stick to it.

Tried to use mine twice recently for local business numbers - they were not there so had to google. Will give it to DS to draw on before recycling.

ToryLovell · 05/06/2012 21:07

Totally agree with you
