to pretend to be settling DS so I don't have to go downstairs and entertain our guests?

Old friends of DP have been here since Friday and aren't leaving until tomorrow. I've entertained them Saturday while DP worked, cooked big dinner last night, cleaned house prior to arrival and again this morning as their DD is crawling and we have a dog, taken them out for lunch, and now they're sat downstairs watching a crappy movie while I snuggle 7 month old DS upstairs as he woke up (he's asleep again now). I don't have to go back downstairs do I? Am I a really bad hostess to leave DP down there alone?

hell no stay where you are

maddening · 03/06/2012 21:55

yanbu - if dh comes looking pretend to be asleep

OddBoots · 03/06/2012 21:55

If they are old friends of your DP and you've seen them lots already then of course you can stay up there a while, I'd say it was being a kindness as it lets them and DP chat about old times more easily.

PandaWatch · 03/06/2012 21:56

Maybe go down and say ds isn't settling so you'll say goodnight to them now and go back up with him?

sagenod · 03/06/2012 21:57

Another vote for staying put! (I do it all the time...)

GrahamTribe · 03/06/2012 21:58

You've done your bit. Stay where you are!

CharlieUniformNovemberTango · 03/06/2012 22:00

Stay where you are as long as you don't have a baby monitor so they can hear he's settled.

If you do, make the odd snorey noise and pretend you've dropped off.

TheNewandImprovedMrsHollywood · 03/06/2012 22:01

Ooh yes, stay there!! I have definitely done that same thing. Especially when DH's family are over...

EclecticShock · 03/06/2012 22:02

I've done that, glad I'm not the only one :)

EclecticShock · 03/06/2012 22:03

Love snuggling too :)

ThePathanKhansWitch · 03/06/2012 22:04

Stay put, I used to do this all the time. And I have genuinely fell asleep when dd was younger. Snuggle that baby.

LittlePebble · 03/06/2012 22:04

Charlie excellent point about the monitor

Snuggly baby vs visitor fatigue?

No contest.

LittlePebble · 03/06/2012 22:06

Grin he is SO snuggly and warm and I'm so tired...
The film is Vantage Point so every time I've been downstairs it seems to be a bit I've seen anyway.

God no! Stay where you are. Have you got a good book? Grin

I used to spend half of my stays with PIL like this - letting on that it took aaages to get the baby settled, and then bedding down with a book. Saved conflict and gave me a break from them/them from me. Win:win.

bobbledunk · 03/06/2012 22:12

You've done enough, enjoy snuggling your baby and let your dp entertain his own friends.

Pochemuchka · 03/06/2012 22:14

Another vote for the snuggles! This is exactly the sort of thing I would do Grin
