Not yet but I will when it starts as I like athletics and the equestrian events. I just dont like the build up.

Yeah, a bit. I don't like all the wank that goes with the olympics but I think some of the events are quite exciting.

Be careful what you wish for. You know the old saying "you don't know what you've got until it's gone">

I will probably watch a bit of the opening ceremony with DS1, who has become interested through preschool, and I may watch some of the equestrian events, but I certainly am not caught up in any fervour.

MimsyBorogroves · 04/06/2012 03:48

And with the jubilee, the "street parties" and all of that stuff are my idea of hell. Forced sociability with my neighbours? Gah.

The so called extra holidays are moot because DH has to be away with work and misses them, which makes his absence more painful for me.

Selfish, yeah, I know. Sad

Yes and A bit

We are throwing a jubilee party where we live. It's a new build estate so there is not much of a community yet, this is a brilliant chance to start building one.

As for being thick, the cake competition is being run by the head of marketing at a large company, the bar is being run by a deputy head teacher and being manned by an engineer, 2 doctors and a policeman. The decorations are being organised by 2 nurses, a midwife and the director of a printing company.

I have overseen the organisation and have a good degree in engineering too.

As for being xenophobic, we have lots of different nationalities, all joining in. We welcome everyone because quite frankly if you are at our party to enjoy the day you are welcome.

Oh and the organising committee are all royalists. HTH
