  1. No. But the 4 day weekend is good.
  2. Not really. I'll enjoy watching some of it but could do without the hype and disruption.
ClaireDeTamble · 03/06/2012 23:18

A bit - the concert should be good, an extra day off is a bonus and I am rather enjoying the air of patriotism - it is nice to see people enjoying being British for something other than football rather than the faint air of self-deprecation that normally surrounds these fair isles.

Hell yes - have loved the Olympics since I was a small child and can't wait to see the athletics, gymnastics, swimming, diving and cycling. Go Jess, Tom, Beth, Victoria and Chris!

That's how I feel too.

It's lovely to see all the flags and communities pulling together around here.

And it's also a massive kick in the bollocks to those who see the Union Flag as having racist undertones because here in London, there are Black, White, Asian, Polish, Irish etc.. etc... people waving it and taking part in the celebrations out of respect and community spirit even if they're not actually British themselves.

Not so much

WorraLiberty · 03/06/2012 23:23

worra. Absolutely agree.

DamselInDisgrace · 03/06/2012 23:25

No.

Despite this, we've attended no less than 2 jubilee parties (one at scouts, one a street party in our street) for the sake of community spirit. It seemed unreasonable to refuse to go (we didn't sign the card for the queen though not that she old ever see it anyway). Both events were fun. We got to meet our neighbours.

WorraLiberty · 03/06/2012 23:28

Lol but Damsel how are you going to feel if you log in tomorrow and there's a thread by Lizzie123 saying, "AIBU to be upset that DamselInDisgrace didn't sign my Jubilee card?

Yes and Yes.
I am so excited about 2012.

Went to the British Gas Swimming Champs at the new Aquatics centre a couple of months ago - it was amazing, superb venue.

Went to the Hyde Park family festival yesterday. TBH was a bit crap (but I blame Sainsbury's for that) and I'm glad we didn't pay for tickets. But we took the no. 23 bus from Liverpool Street to Marble Arch (sitting upstairs at the front) and London looks gorgeous at the moment. It was fantastic seeing all the flags up everywhere. Then we walked down to the river in the sunshine on the way home - it was a lovely day.

Can't wait to go to the Paralympics in September. Seeing all the athletes in the Olympic stadium.

Our local council is putting Olympic signs up everywhere and sprucing the place up - I suspect we are some sort of 'Olympic gateway' or some such.

WorraLiberty Sorry OP, it was supposed to be a 'yes-no' answer wasn't it

Ha ha Worra - like anybody's ever going to get a yes-no answer out of you Grin.

Aperolspritzer · 03/06/2012 23:37

and no but good luck to those who do

FluffyMcBastard · 03/06/2012 23:37

Yes, a bit as I love seeing all of the flags and enjoy the feeling of community.

NO, bloody waste of money, even down to the adverts telling us to think about our method of travel. Well, I have and am travelling right out of the country for the duration :).

What was the question again? Grin

mummymeister · 03/06/2012 23:42

No - the queen is Ok but dont like the idea that in the 21st Century we still give power to people born to it rather than on merit. if it were Charlie boy then it would be a big fat massive no.
yes ish but thats cos i have some tickets and i am an armchair sports fan. feel your view may be different the further away from London you live.

PatFenis · 03/06/2012 23:46

No but yes but no but yes - Posh Vicky Pollard? I really couldn't give a shiny shit about the Jubilee but my DCs have been really excited and today we watched the celebrations together. When the Gary Barlow thing was on my DD started singing the song he wrote - I had never heard it before but she sang it word for word and that was a bit bizarre!

Course I know thick people, everyone does. I meet people of all types. It's more people that care about the jubilee. Most royalists are fairly xenophobic so therefore thick, ime ofc.
