To think that it is ridiculous, that the phone reminder service for my local hospital rang me from a number in AMERICA?

It must have been the cheapest option for them?

SaggyCeratops · 02/06/2012 23:56

I suppose so, it just seems so ridiculous! The hospital is 5 miles down the road! wouldn't have happened when I was a nipper Grin

Outsourcing to forriners . . . . taking our jobs!!!

Seriously though, does seem quite ridiculous doesn't it but like agentzig said, it must be the cheapest option.

Seriously? How do you know it was America? That's just bizarre.

SaggyCeratops · 03/06/2012 07:18

Because on my phone, I get the whole number displayed, and if it's an international number it tells you the location as well. [smart phone]

Ah, I see! Very strange. I have family in the States and calling to a mobile from there costs a fortune so stumped as to how it could be cheaper!

Good to see the NHS is farming out jobs to the third world...

What do you mean phone reminder service?

I have a virtual phone number maintained by an American company. It all takes place over the internet like Skype.

I have no idea where the call is routed when someone rings me. It has a local code but goes through to my mobile.

I don't pay much for this service but it is great for business rather than having a separate business line.

SaggyCeratops · 03/06/2012 22:13

It's an automated call, asking if I will be attending my appointment. It clearly said on the screen, the number, the state abbreviation and USA!

Wonder if it's totally automated and the phone number you've been given is that of the software development company that generates the calls rather than it actually being dialled from a call centre in the US.
