To think that the Daily Mail didn't have to show these images?

I know, I know, don't read the Daily Fail normally, etc etc. I read the Guardian as well just but sometimes I like to see each end of the spectrum. (And it has good sleb gossip. Blush

But - I just read an article about that horrible porn star cannibal killer (in itself awful, I shouldn't have looked but it's a massive story here - we don't have much news in Canada of any interest) and the DM showed stills from a video of the killer feeding a kitten to a python.

You know when you feel it crosses a line? Did they really need to show that?
Never going to look at the DM again.

In fairness, you are totally right Lemarchands. I shouldn't have even put that down and I apologise if it has upset anyone.

I think the killing has been so big over here because it is pretty dreadful. I shouldn't have looked at the Dm and never will again.

YANBU. It's sometimes acceptable for the media to show distressing photos if it will educate the public. For example, I'd support the showing of a dog dying/dead through being left in a hot car or a child scarred by hot water through grabbing the overhanging handle of a pan on the hob - things which might shock people into realising the dangers and making them do something to avoid them - but those DM photos are just gratuitous.

My friend feeds rats to his python, thats what youre supposed to do, it's nature. I don't see why they shouldn't show it just because people like cute fluffy kittens more than they like rats.

If they had showed pornographic canibalism, you would have had a point.

If in the uk outraged, your friend should be feeding dead rats to the python not live ones, it's illegal.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 01/06/2012 18:21

Yes they are dead. Was the kitten not dead then? That makes it more gross.

1950sHousewife · 01/06/2012 18:26

Won't say anything more about what it shows, because Lemar has a very good point. I was trying hard not to be explicit too much about it, there are far far far worse details about what he has done. I just didn't think stills were needed to be shown of it, they are really graphic. And yes, there is a video of the him killing someone out there. I expect the Dm will put stills of that in soon...

And ISWYM about what people feed to their pythons. But this wasn't to feed it. Not really. That's what makes it awful.

Hmm, perhaps I will change my mind then. It sounds more horrible than I had first imagined.

Ratbagcatbag · 01/06/2012 19:08

Sorry outraged Grin I have no idea if the kitten was dead, I assumed it wasn't, (but happy to be proven wrong) so when you said about rats, I assumed alive too.

I feel really guilty defrosting two mice a week for my snakes but they need to eat.

Bethan31 · 01/06/2012 19:19

I feel sick from reading about the kitten on this thread, sorry OP nothing personal as I know you didn't mean to upset anyone. Perhaps when they catch this vile man they can throw him into a snake pit and see how he feels.

Yanbu about they daily mail, I had read on sky news that he was a known animal abuser but thankfully they didn't mention what the abuse was.

1950sHousewife · 01/06/2012 19:24

I'm so sorry if I upset you Bethan. Honestly, I thought I'd managed to get it down to the least grim I could get it.

I think that is what I mean about the DM. Sky news has it right, mention it, but not specifics (as I have just found - even the most basic info is horrible if you aren't ready for it), so to see pictures was dreadful.

Its my fault for looking really - I guess I didn't think it would make it to the English newspapers and wanted to see what they were making of it as I heard he might be London.

Hi 1950s, honestly, please don't worry, I feel for you and everyone else who was unfortunate enough to have seen the pics in the daily mail...his crimes are very disturbing and the media should be very careful how they report them, shame they aren't that careful though...
