Would it bother you if the girl behind the counter in the bakery sneezed on the bread you were about to buy?

I was queuing to buy bread in the bakery this morning, got to my turn and the girl said, excuse me, and then turned away from the counter and sneezed behind her where the uncovered loaves of bread were. She then turned back to me to ask what I wanted without washing her hands or anything. I said "Actually that's put me off" and so I left without buying anything and she looked surprised! I wasn't snooty about it or anything but couldn't face the thought of bread with particles of snot on it. Was I unreasonable. It's lovely bread btw.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 01/06/2012 11:08

YANBU...that's manky >_

jeee · 01/06/2012 11:09

I walked out of Costa Coffee when the server sneezed into his hands, and then continued to serve without washing his hands. You are most definitely NBU.

ZZZenAgain · 01/06/2012 11:09

I remember going into a bakery in Berlin in summer. THe doors were left open and the cakes and rolls and things were crawling with wasps. I asked the woman if it didn't bother her picking things up from the display when there were wasps all over the place and she said it did at first but she had got used to it. I was amazed at all the people ordering food from those displays. She'd pick up a tart with a wasp on it and brush the wasp off, put it in a paper bag. I didn't buy anything.

FarelyKnuts · 01/06/2012 11:10

Erkkkkk, YADNBU

PandaWatch · 01/06/2012 11:10

No - yanbu. That's disgusting. It's not like you can wash bread so anyone eating it would be eating her snot particles. I would have told her she should throw them away and would probably have complained to the manager about the fact that they are clearly lacking in educating their staff about hygiene.

A thousand times ewww!

Dropdeadfred · 01/06/2012 11:11

Yuk - you can get staph infections that cause food poisoning from
People sneezing on cakes etc

Bluebell99 · 01/06/2012 11:13

Glad it's not just me then. Wondering whether to email the company but then would they know it was me and would I be able to show my face in there again! It's a new bakery in town, but so off putting.

were there other people in the shop at the time?

RuleBritannia · 01/06/2012 11:15

Report the incident to the Local Authority's Environment Department. They'll go and check the premises, watch staff, and the matter will be out of your hands.

PandaWatch · 01/06/2012 11:15

Email them! Definitely! I think they would rather you did so they can do something about it than having people not going in "cause that's where they sell the snot rolls"

Bluebell99 · 01/06/2012 11:16

I don't want anything from the company btw for emailing, I just want to go back to buying lovely snot free bread. Bit of staff training. The woman behind laughed, but maybe she wasn't buying snotty bread.

I would break the internet if I described in full quite how much that would bother me :o. Suffice to say I have ishoos with snot.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 01/06/2012 11:19

PMSL @ "Lovely snot free bread"!

SugarBatty · 01/06/2012 11:24

I read the thread title as 'squeezed' so thought yabu Grin

Now I have realised yanbu eeeyakkkk!

FlippinCheekOfIt · 01/06/2012 13:03

I worked in an instore bakery for a few years. An accidental sneeze in the general vacinity of the bread is the least of your worries. If I told you half of what went on behind the scenes, you'd never eat again.

hiddenhome · 01/06/2012 13:14

YANBU

I was in Sainsbos the other day when an old bloke picked up a loaf of fresh bread - it had that flimsy wrapping on - and started squeezing and sniffing it - I was like Shock as I walked past and thought I should say something after he then put it back on the shelf and walked off Angry

QuietNinjaMakingDecisions · 01/06/2012 13:41

Ewwwwww just that. Yanbu and you know it.

Noqontrol · 01/06/2012 13:44

Ewww, I would have walked away too. Dirty woman.

knowitallstrikesagain · 01/06/2012 13:45

YANBU

But it does make me wonder how much stuff is sneezed on that we don't see...

bobbledunk · 01/06/2012 16:59

yanbu, I'd complain to the management, they need to know that they have employed an individual with no concept of hygiene.

Buckingfiatch · 01/06/2012 17:06

I have a friend who used to work in a Bakery and warned us never to buy their bread. Apparently, the things they get up to with it, would knock you sick.

GinPalace · 01/06/2012 17:09

YANBU! Gross! She obviously missed her basic hygiene training.

Hope she washes her hands after she has been the the loo as she doesn't appear to have been brought up with hand washing after bodily functions as the norm! Hmm

That would be enough for me not to go there again, maybe I am too squeamish but the fact that she didn't even understand your dislike is extra black mark in my book.
