to be cross with the midwife who put sticky part of bandage over my wound?

Had a c-section last Wednesday and before being discharged from the hospital on Saturday the midwife (who was not helpful and thoroughly unfriendly) replaced the waterproof dressing over my wound. The community midwife returned to remove this on day 5 only to find the adhesive had been applied direct to the c-section wound!!! It pulled some skin away and now I have a small open wound where I should have a neat & healed section scar. So so cross and very disappointed. Has this happened to anyone else?

Mine was sticky all over - the person who removed it said 'Brace yourself!' and ripped it off like when you have a leg wax!!!!

Ouch.

OUCH! I feel your pain, how awful.

I remember when my DS had a circumsision at the age of 2 due to not being able to pee properly through his foreskin.

They taped him up with the strong sticky tape stuff. Luckily not on his little willy though. I had to bath him every night for a week and try to peel a fraction off at a time. Ended up taking him to my mums for her to get the last bit off because I was a coward. What a nightmare!

I had an open wound part for a long time afterwards (6 weeks ish) due to a haematoma. It wasn't painful though and it healed fine in the end.

If you're concerned, you could always shave the area and get some of those sticky butterfly strips from the chemist to hold it together. How big is the gap?

Me too - sticky all over. The day after my c-section I was told to rip it off in the shower...well I took it slow and steady and wowzers Shock

They said best to get dressing off asap to 'air' it....I think you have got off lightly Smile
(well not lightly but you know...could have been worse)

Are you sue it just isn't a graze? If it was an open wound surely it would need attention?

StealthPolarBear · 31/05/2012 12:28

But the ops wound has been re opened because the sticky part of the bandage was over the wound itself! That can't be right, or are you all saying the same happened?

valiumredhead · 31/05/2012 12:30

Mine was sticky all over, it really did need ripping off - there was no peeling involved.

If your incision has opened from having a dressing removed then it probably would have opened anyway; it would suggest that the wound wasn't completely closed.

If it's clean and dry then leave it and don't worry about it - wounds heal from the bottom up and the sides in so it should heal without problem. If it's oozing/sore/red/warm then you need to see the midwife or practice nurse.
