Have now been tapped up by the Beeb, the Evening Standard and today Times 2 because of threads I have posted. This has been in about the last 18 months. Do they pm you too and ask for interviews or comments?

You will now all get PMs from journalists writing about journalists PMing Mumsnetters.

I have a couple of times about the DDs births, journalists wanting me to talk about home birth/hypnobirthing/painless births.

heliumballoon · 31/05/2012 07:55

I've had the ones trying to flog particular products. Usually relating to a post years ago so utterly pointless as well as deeply annoying.
Do they ever contact me about things I feel strongly about and would like to raise awareness of like SPD? Nope.

HecateTrivia · 31/05/2012 07:57

Nope. Never.

Nor do I get spiteful PMs from people who don't like what I've said, or pervy PMs from dodgy blokes

and to be honest, I'm starting to feel a bit rejected.

clearly I am not newsworthy, controversial or sexy.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 31/05/2012 08:05

I have. About stuff regarding adoption. I thought it was highly Inapropriate and reported it

Bobyan · 31/05/2012 08:07

And not one journalist has want to interview you about your steadfast economic planning policies, I'm shocked! Wink

MardyBratannia · 31/05/2012 08:11

Never, but I am mainly to be found on trivia threads. If any of you journos would like a saucy anagram of your name, please do let me know?

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 31/05/2012 08:18

Yes I have had a pm through here, and reported it. And also, more disturbingly another journalist pm'd me through Facebook about a post on here, so as to get round the guidelines. Bit worried about the amount of effort that went into finding out who I was.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 31/05/2012 08:23

I was quoted in The Times [smug]

Only been approached via PM for this kind of thing once, and that was by a student. I think I ignored it. I'd report a journo though, cheeky fuckers.

Nancy66 · 31/05/2012 08:26

I can't see a problem with journalists PMing people.

They system MN have for media enquiries just doesn't work.

They don't know your ID or any personal information and if you don't want to take part you just ignore it.

BiscuitNibbler · 31/05/2012 08:27

I had a PM from someone called "JournoJo" - Jo MacFarlane, from the Mail on Sunday apparently - about swine flu vaccinations.

I did a quick search on her articles and they all were exactly as I suspected - trashy, sensationalist clap trap.

SucksToBeMe · 31/05/2012 08:32

I have been pm'd. When I said that my mum was was with me at the birth of DS, instead of DH. I was offered £200 for a interview and some photos.
I never replied. I don't get out of bed for less than £350!! Grin

NorbertDentressangle · 31/05/2012 08:32

oooooh...how exciting!

I will wait in anticipation for The Times to contact me about my "How often do you defrost your freezer?" thread I started last night.

Jinsei · 31/05/2012 08:33

I've been approached once. Just ignored it.

TandB · 31/05/2012 08:35

I've had two - one was a radio station and the other was a broadsheet journalist allegedly.

Can't remember what the first one was about but the other wanted to talk to me about whether I had ever actually inserted my baby into his carseat through the car window as I had pondered about doing on a P&C thread.

IamtheZombie · 31/05/2012 08:39

Nancy66, MN charge journalists and other media a mere £30 to use the system properly and post a request for any MNers willing to share their relevant story.

IIRC, there have been several instances of posters becoming distressed by direct approaches from journalists about extremely sensitive matters.

That is why such approaches should be reported to MNHQ so that they can deal with them.

jubilucket · 31/05/2012 08:46

I had the same as SucksToBeMe, I pmed back 'not even for £200,000.' To be fair she pm-ed back to apologise for troubling me. She said she was a free-lancer and the article would have been for the Mail.

shewhowines · 31/05/2012 08:54

Sorry to be thick but how do you find if someone has pm'd you? Not that I think anyone will have done Sad

Nancy66 · 31/05/2012 08:56

iamzomie - i know the system. It doesn't work though. it can take ages to get your post up - not helpful when working on a deadline and the section is not well read.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 31/05/2012 09:06

Shewhowines

At the top of your screen it says Inbox, if you have a pm it has a read dot it in it Smile

CinnyCall · 31/05/2012 09:07

limitedperiodonly · 31/05/2012 09:07

IIRC, there have been several instances of posters becoming distressed by direct approaches from journalists about extremely sensitive matters.

Assuming the requests aren't rude or persistent, how can it be distressing to be asked to expand on something you've posted on a public messageboard?

I can see why it pisses MNHQ off though, since they warn you that they own all the material posted and reserve the right to use it in any way they choose.

Nancy66 · 31/05/2012 09:09

Dominic is a motoring correspondent - would have been for the In Gear supplement.

cocolepew · 31/05/2012 09:11

I got one, ages ago, from a journalist who had read a thread where we were discussing hairy DDS Grin

I was quoted in Grazia once.

StanleyLambchop · 31/05/2012 09:12

I was contacted once, I ignored it. I was also had a comment I made on a MN thread quoted in a paper (noone asked my permission BTW) I am not particulary proud though as it was the ....I can hardly bring myself to say it but .. The Daily Mail. I did not even tell my husband about my 'fame'.
