Have now been tapped up by the Beeb, the Evening Standard and today Times 2 because of threads I have posted. This has been in about the last 18 months. Do they pm you too and ask for interviews or comments?

I thought that using PMs for this purpose was strictly against MN rules? I'm v surprised to hear of "respectable" journalists doing it.

tethersend · 30/05/2012 22:03

No. But I'd like to go on record as saying I am shocked and saddened. About most things.

BIWItheBold · 30/05/2012 22:04

Never.

But have you alerted MNHQ to this? Journalists aren't supposed to use the PM function for this purpose.

WorraLiberty · 30/05/2012 22:04

Nope Lol

How do they know whose telling the truth about their lives and who isn't anyway?

usualsuspect · 30/05/2012 22:05

I could do a good sad picture

OddBoots · 30/05/2012 22:06

I have once a couple of months ago but only that one time.

CharltonHairstyle · 30/05/2012 22:06

I've never had a PM from anyone Blush

marriedinwhite · 30/05/2012 22:07

I reported the one asking for a relationship though Shock

GreenEyesAndHam · 30/05/2012 22:07

I could totally see usual giving sad face whilst clutching a peg bag

usualsuspect · 30/05/2012 22:08

MarySA · 30/05/2012 22:09

I was totally fascinated by the clothes peg thread.

EdgarAllenPimms · 30/05/2012 22:10

WorraLiberty · 30/05/2012 22:10

Charlton I've broken your PM virginity Grin

Moln · 30/05/2012 22:11

Yes MarySA, but whose post did you like the most?

There's a fierce competition brewing here

usualsuspect · 30/05/2012 22:11

Where you in the pegs on or off camp?

RedBlanket · 30/05/2012 22:12

I've only ever had one PM and that was someone telling me sleb gossip I because I couldn't work out who they were talking about in the thread.
Clearly I need to up my game, how do I get a piece of this peg bag action?

IBetTheresFlumpPorn · 30/05/2012 22:12

Yes, a couple of times (under various names). National newspapers but I can't remember which ones, or what about!

I've also received spam resulting from things I've said - e.g. after a question I asked once on S&B about makeup, someone who sells Avon popped up and started the hard sell about various wonder products. I always report those.

ClaireDeTamble · 30/05/2012 22:12

I got one from the Times who were doing an article of whether mothers who continued to work were less depressed and had picked up on comments I had made on one of the many a WOHM vs SAHM thread.

exoticfruits · 30/05/2012 22:13

No-I am always overcome if anyone takes any notice at all!

BoffinMum · 30/05/2012 22:13

I got one once about some dentistry article. I ignored it.

Leftwingharpie · 30/05/2012 22:13

Hey - my name is Katie Burnetts. Hope this message finds you well! I am a journalist for Cosmopolitan Magazines. I've read some of your posts on here and was wondering if you and your partner would be interested in writing each other a love letter (to be opened in the future) in the mag? We are asking three couples to help us out - one who are just married, one who have just got back together, and one who are trying for another baby. Does it sound like something you would be interested in doing? If you are between 25-35 and both don't mind participating, I'd love to hear from you. My number is 07960179405 and my email address is [email protected] Thanks. Katie.

LineRunner · 30/05/2012 22:13

Yes, I am constantly not giving interviews about my young thrusting cucumbers.

IamtheZombie · 30/05/2012 22:14

Journalists are not allowed to contact posters by PM. MNHQ have repeatedly asked that all such approaches are reported to them.

mummymeister · 30/05/2012 22:14

Nope - never. Perhaps i am just a bit too dull/not controversial enough and dont live in London! MN must be a godsend to journos now i have thought about it!!

2rebecca · 30/05/2012 22:16

No, but I only look at my messages every couple of months. Just checked, none there. I've twice given interviews to the press and had my sentences changed to alter the meaning of what I said so would stay clear of journalists. The truth is rarely sensational or exciting enough for them.
