To keep the children at home as I am ill.

I have the flu. Temperature, shivering, dizzy the whole lot. I have got up and made the dc their breakfast as DH is currently working 3000 miles away in Perth (am in Brisbane, Australia).

I don't think I am fit to drive the dc to school and it is pissing down raining with the enthusiasm of an English summer, so walking is out.

All their friends go to before school club in about 15 minutes (7am) and I can't think of anyone to ask to come and get them.

Would it be really terrible for them to stay at home today? They are 8 and 6, they'll quite happily do mathletics/education city during the day as a sop to my conscience.

Flame away, you can't make me feel worse than I do already...Sad

Hope you feel better soon. YANBU if you've exhausted all avenues. If it wasn't for the fact that my stepfather could step in and take DS to school, then I'd have been in the same boat today. Through a horrendous stomach bug as opposed to flu though. Are you able to make plans for tomorrow? A day of complete rest on your own will do you the world of good :)

Emsmaman · 30/05/2012 21:49

Wouldn't you like to get rid of them so you can have a day to yourself though? Definitely not going to flame you.

Everythingsgoingtitsup · 30/05/2012 21:49

Get a cab there and back. Once they are at school you can go back to bed - rebook the cab to get you for pick up this afternoon. Feel better soon.

bobbledunk · 30/05/2012 21:49

If you're too ill to get them there then yanbu, take the day off and cuddle up on the couch watching movies and eating chocolate, a nice lazy day. No harm in it.

Gumby · 30/05/2012 21:49

What about a taxi?
Then you can get some rest

YardBroom · 30/05/2012 21:50

yanbu - i would deffo stay at home. Hope you feel better soon.

Bratella · 30/05/2012 21:51

Poor you! No YANBU - although can't anyone have them during the day so that you can rest? Otherwise don't worry. Get well soon :)

toofattorun · 30/05/2012 21:52

I would keep them at home for the day otherwise you have to go and collect them before you know it and you might be feeling worse later on (hope not).
It's only one day.

eastendywendy · 30/05/2012 21:55

Poor you. Get them to school in a taxi and see if a friend can collect them. Seriously, a day of rest will help. Also remember they might catch it too (sorry) so less time off now the better.

Look after yourself. Its hellish but you'll get through it.

eastendywendy · 30/05/2012 21:55

Ps if you really think its easier for YOU for them to stay home then YANBU

SconeInSixtySeconds · 30/05/2012 21:55

Thanks for all the kind words, someone must be cutting onions in here.

A taxi would cost $15 each way (about 10 quid) they are really expensive over here...they are remarkably lovely dc (when I'm ill). I think we'll have a sofa day and they can have a rest too. No half terms over here so they've been in school since Easter and don't break up for another 4 weeks.

Thanks again Thanks
