It depends on what your opinion is. If it's the opposite of mine, then it stands to reason that I am the one on the right and you are totally and utterly wrong.

ginmakesitallok · 30/05/2012 19:29

But sometimes what the person thinks is an opinion isn't actually an opinion - it's just WRONG

Noqontrol · 30/05/2012 19:32

You have to prove that you are right. Until you can prove it then you remain in the wrong. So YABU. Wink

Tortington · 30/05/2012 19:35

doesnt make you right either love Wink

OK, well I said that I'd put on weight because I had children. My friend said that this isn't true as she knows someone who has 7 children and is a size 8.
Even when I tried to explain what I meant (which was that having children meant a change in lifestyle, which in turn has caused me to gain weight) she stated "Well I don't agree so you are wrong"

While she is entitled to her opinion, and can disagree with me if she likes, IMO I have gained weight because I have children.

And I know that doesn't make me right either, and I'm sure some/all of you will agree with her, but thats what opinion is isn't it? My opinion, no-one else'es and therefore can't be right/wrong

Depends doesn't it.

Do you believe that everyone on benefits is a scounger getting a free plasma tv and a 12 bedroom house from the government? You'd be wrong.

Do you believe gay people are an abomination? Wrong

etc

catgirl
no because I am on benefits
and again no because they aren't

i should have clarified that if an opinion is 'ist' in anyway then of course it can be declared 'wrong' but my opinion in this matter is hurting no-one :)

monkeymoma · 30/05/2012 19:56

you were obviously abused and this is clouding your judgement so you cannot be right

(I've had that one! not been abused BTW)

mynewpassion · 30/05/2012 19:59

Sometimes people based their opinions on incorrect information. If that's the case, then you would be wrong.

monkeymoma · 30/05/2012 20:01

or if posting on the docs strike thread, and you support the thread, you are obv a doctor so your suppost doesn't count!

lots and lots of posters not happy to just disagree, they invent reasons why you cannot have an opinion

EclecticShock · 30/05/2012 20:05

Opinions are personal but that doesn't make them right or wrong, however, everyone needs to consider the wider picture. Yes, having children does generally make most people put on weight but it doesn't stop everyone from losing weight. It may have prevented you from losing weight for reasons personal to you but it's those reasons that have prevented you not the act of having children iyswim. I didn't say that very well did I :)

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 30/05/2012 20:27

Eclectic that is what I had meant with my original statement but she refused to listen/take on board what I had meant, and continued to state that I was wrong. My personal opinion is that it was having the children that led to the lifestyle change, that led to the weight gain. But that is only my way of looking at it, doesnn't make it right or wrong!

OP posts:
EclecticShock · 30/05/2012 20:35

Completely agree, she just had another way of looking at it. Some ways are more effective in making you happy than others but again down to personal crircumstances.

EclecticShock · 30/05/2012 20:38

Everyone's opinions are valid for their circumstances at the time. Opinions can change though. I was quite happy being heavier when I was breast feeding but I wanted to be back to my normal weight as that made me more comfortable do once I stopped bf I lost weight.
