To leave my pegs on the washing line?

Am i being unreasonable to do this? I have noticed over recent weeks a distinct lack of pegs on my neighbours washing lines.

Does everybody else take their pegs down between uses? It has never crossed my minds to do this but I am thinking I may be in the minority going by recent evidence. Am I a slattern? Are my neighbours talking amongst themselves about my slovenly ways?

I blame it on my Gran. Love her to death but she has a thing about leaving washing out being 'slovenly' and I've clearly absorbed it!! On the other hand she also thinks tattoos are the mark of complete slatterns and I have one of those so my absorbing must be selective!!

I've got a peg bag and a cover for my brand new (argos value) rotary clothes airer

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 30/05/2012 20:40

I wouldn't dream of leaving pegs out on the line! They live in an old roses tin in the garage, so no posh peg bags here. But line gets cover on and brought in too when it's wet. Can't be doing with stuff sitting about.

bogeyface · 30/05/2012 20:41

This has reminded me that I did have a brief "moment" about an hour ago when I pegged out some washing thinking that iw ould have to stay out overnight and that my mother would be disgusted! So I made a point of telling her when she rang :o

squeakytoy · 30/05/2012 20:41

peg bags and bringing pegs in comes under my list of "life is too short to...."

I'm busy MrsJay. Busy not lazy

mine and dps books are in no order at all, just however we can fit them on the bookcase, similar height books together ish, but not always, they are a mish mash as we dont have enough bookcase space, but the childrens books on their bookcases are arranged so sets are together and height order, tallest books to the left handside (looking at the bookcase) down to smallest on the righthandside.

thinking about it my house is a mishmash of some things that are realy orgnaised and i am anal about and others that i am not, i suspect its more that the more children i have had the less time i have to be anal about such things! Grin

bogeyface · 30/05/2012 20:45

Funny you should say that 5, my kids book shelves are all beautifully arranged, I get a nice little thrill when I have tidied them because of how lovely they look! But also get that thrill when I look at my mishmashed books all over the house!

Moln · 30/05/2012 20:46

Um, I leave the pegs in a bag hooked over the top of the collapsed (and covered) rotary line

Have I been doing it wrong? Am i confused?

5madthings · 30/05/2012 20:47

its funny isnt it ! i like the neatness of the childrens books but i dont have the energy or the patience to sort ours out and tbh i quite like our mishmash of books :)

but next time easily visit me i shall see if i can get her to organise our cds, i would quite like them to be more organised but there are far too many, over 1000 and again i dont have the time or the inclination to sort them out, but i can get my sister to do it instead Grin

Scuttlebutter · 30/05/2012 20:49

Pegs (Lakeland soft grip which are lovely) all brought in, via a peg bag I made myself at a sewing class (also made tea cosy and ovenglove Blush). Rotary washing line left up though. Agree long lines are nicer but we have a smallish and squarish garden, so not practical.

catchafallingstar · 30/05/2012 20:51

correct width for each item - eh?????!!!

Is there a rule as to which peg to use??

Confused...

bogeyface · 30/05/2012 20:52

DVDs are arranged here. H has 1500 (at the last count...ffs he only watches them once!) and they are arranged with precision! By Genre, title, type (box set, cardboard covers, limited edition covers.....).

When I found out about his affair (we are sort of working on it,...sort of) I went through and mixed up atleast 200 of the them, putting the wrong DVD in the wrong box, it took me days! No rhyme or reason, not swapped box for box, totally fucked them up! It made me feel better as it is delayed revenge, he will find out one day :o

bogeyface · 30/05/2012 20:53

Ooh and talking of pegs, I cant use the old fashioned dolly pegs, the sound they make and the feel of it when I put them on makes my skin crawl!

usualsuspect · 30/05/2012 20:55

Should my pegs match? I have an odd assortment

Can you still by dolly pegs?

usualsuspect · 30/05/2012 20:55

oh x posts

liger · 30/05/2012 20:58

I have wooden pegs that always get taken in with the washing, they live in a peg bag on a hook under the stairs where the washing machine lives. I could not imagine leaving the peg bag outside. Ive only ever bought two sets of pegs, the second was because I needed more pegs!

I confess to wiping the line, before hanging out the first wash of 'the season' and am always smugly pleased by how grimy the cloth becomes.

I think I've gained a better understanding of myself thanks to this thread! I got a vicarious thrill when I saw the thread title. Hmm

5madthings · 30/05/2012 20:58

i have whatever plastic pegs i can buy cheaply when i remember to buy them and no they dont match!

but talking of matching one of my neighbours when hanging her washing out does it all in size and colour order, starting with big dark items, going down to smaller light colours, she even pegs her socks out in pairs! I mean who the fuck has time to do that?!!

i hang out big stuff and i have to say anything little like baby vests, socks, pants etc all goes in the tumble dryer, i dont have enough time, or enough pegs to be faffing about with pegging out all the small stuff!!

liger · 30/05/2012 20:59

I have dolly pegs too, best for sheets. Don't really work on thicker items.

( hangs head in shame)

bogeyface · 30/05/2012 21:00

5 your neighbour sounds like my mother! She pegs socks out in pairs too, and has a system for everything else!

bogeyface · 30/05/2012 21:01

"Dont peg the small stuff" :o Love it!

usualsuspect · 30/05/2012 21:02

I sling all my socks on a radiator airer that I hook on the fence

5madthings · 30/05/2012 21:03

yes its my mantra now "dont peg the small stuff" seriously tho i have enough of a bother trying to get the washing hung out with out dd tipping it all out over the floor, dragging it into the sandpit in her 'helpful' manner, or her new thing to do is to get any item of clothing and go and put it in the laundry basket, which is great when its dirty stuff, when its the piles of washed, dried and folded washing its rather annoying! good job she is cute Grin

liger · 30/05/2012 21:04

I never hang my knickers on the line. They are always put on an airer indoors or draped round the washing basket which is then placed in a sunny patch.

Does it help at all that my peg bag is a plastic bag? But it is a adtic bag of sentimental value.

( fears all hope is lost)

5madthings · 30/05/2012 21:05

likes the sounds of usuals garden, mismatched pegs and an airer hung on the fence Grin

which reminds me the airer is still out in the garden with the washing on it, it must be dry by now! better get it in before i forget and leave it out all night! cos i never do that oh no
