To leave my pegs on the washing line?

Am i being unreasonable to do this? I have noticed over recent weeks a distinct lack of pegs on my neighbours washing lines.

Does everybody else take their pegs down between uses? It has never crossed my minds to do this but I am thinking I may be in the minority going by recent evidence. Am I a slattern? Are my neighbours talking amongst themselves about my slovenly ways?

YABU. I bring all my pegs in and then reel in the line.

It makes the garden look nicer.

However, if it was down to me and me only I would have the pegs on the line and regularly leave the washing out Grin

BellaOfTheBalls · 30/05/2012 19:22

No I leave mine on. Too much bloody faff.

Although my friend bought me this amazing peg dolly bag thing to put all my pegs in. It's made from really chintzy 70's fabric & is so OTT. I love it so much it almost makes it worth the faff.

MarySA · 30/05/2012 19:22

I used to. But they rusted sometimes and left marks on the washing. So now I always bring them in. I keep them in one of those plastic boxes those washing liquid pouches come in. It works quite well. I had a peg bag once but it got lost.

SecretNutellaFix · 30/05/2012 19:23

I would say yes. I find that they are more likely to break when they have been left out. I had to buy another 2 packs this week.

CockyPants · 30/05/2012 19:23

On the line. Life is too short. I'm a slobby slattern, obvs

surroundedbyblondes · 30/05/2012 19:24

Ours live outdoors

Noqontrol · 30/05/2012 19:24

It's never crossed my mind to take the pegs off of the line. Although now I come to think of it, they are a bit brittle, and rusty, oh and dirty too. Hmmmm.

Mrsjay · 30/05/2012 19:26

I leave mine on the line sometimes drives my neighbour potty she gossips how slobby i am ( i am not kidding) i had a peg basket but it broke , I do take them in if its raining they do wear ,

evilgiraffe · 30/05/2012 19:30

Mine live in a jolly little peg bucket, hooked on to the mysterious ring that's screwed into the wall next to our back door. It has holes in, which is very handy for draining out rainwater and the odd spider. If I'm feeling particularly domestic (or the weather forecast is particularly grim) I reel in the line as well.

Flatbread · 30/05/2012 19:30

I don't bother to peg. Just drape clothes on the line and hope for the best. Grin

CountryMouse27 · 30/05/2012 19:31

I once brought mine in, then for the next load of washing the shame it must have been over a week later I couldn't find a single peg. They turned up in the bottom of the to-do washing basket??? Never again.

Moln · 30/05/2012 19:34

That's why I take them off wereoff, they won't be at the corrct width for the next item.

I mean, imagine!!

There I'd be there holding a wet item in my hand and I'd have to remove a left out peg with the other.

Anything could happen!

What if the said wet item partlly drapped on the ground.

The horror!

Sometime DH leaves the pegs on, I have to tell him off. Puts a big strain on the relationship I tell you. i say to him "How can one collapse the line now? Hmmmm? Did you think of that! DID YOU!? The cover won't go over it either" (it's a rotary one btw)

i'd like to point out that my wild side is shown in my pegging. It's not a designated peg bag. It's just a old bag, hemp I think, I don't ven know if it is hemp. Madness I know!

catgirl1976 · 30/05/2012 19:37

I leave my washing out, never mind pegs.

Love the idea of leaving pegs out being "common"

If anything's "common" it's caring what the neighbours might think Grin

Greenshadow · 30/05/2012 19:39

Wooden ones definitely need bringing in.

Peg bags don't cost much and should be able to hang on your line, making it quite easy to hang everything up.

AngelWreakinHavoc · 30/05/2012 19:39

I always bring them in, The springs go rusty otherwise. AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT....Spiders hide in them then attack you when you least expect it!!

usualsuspect · 30/05/2012 19:40

Mine are all plastic , I have to hunt round the garden for them sometimes.

AnneofGreenFables · 30/05/2012 19:43

I always bring mine in. I'm a slattern in many ways but hoik up my judgey pants about pegs on the line or even worse, clothes left out over night

Maybe the judging makes me feel better that my house is a tip is not pristine

catgirl1976 · 30/05/2012 19:44

I leave my clothes out for days sometimes.

Mrsjay · 30/05/2012 19:45

what is this reeling in of washing lines ? i have 4 poles with my line Oh god i think im common Grin My neighbour is right

usualsuspect · 30/05/2012 19:48

I had a towel on my line for the whole of last winter.

CheshireDing · 30/05/2012 19:48

I put the pegs in their bag, bring it in, clothes the rotary line, bring it in and it all goes in the garage.

YABU and a scruff bag Grin

washing was left out overnight on Sunday 'cos it was hot. Horror!

SleepyFergus · 30/05/2012 19:49

I always bring mine in. It would 'unsettle' me to leave them out!! Blush

catgirl1976 · 30/05/2012 19:49

Did you re-wash it or just use it usual :)

Bunbaker · 30/05/2012 19:49

"Does everybody else take their pegs down between uses? It has never crossed my minds to do this"

It has never occurred to me to leave my pegs on the line. I have a rotary dryer that I put in the garage when I am not using it and my pegs live in a peg bag. Everyone I know keeps their pegs in a peg bag and not on the line.

We have a very small garden so I always tidy the line away when not in use.

QueenOfTheMadhouse · 30/05/2012 19:50

Oh FFS it's started raining now on my pegged out towels, I really should bring them inside...
