to wonder why anyone would spend £455 on a face cream

Looking through an InStyle supplement and discovered their best face cream was a Sisley one at £455.
Can't believe many people could afford this and even if you could why would you?

I don't think, in fact I know I haven't spent £455 on skin care in my entire 48 years.

Paiviaso · 29/05/2012 12:29

Because some people just have a bit too much money to throw around I suppose, and/or because they are sucked into thinking it will make them look young and beautiful. shrug

Swatchdog · 29/05/2012 12:30

If you could afford it why would it be an issue? If someone earns many, many times the national average salary £455 isn't a lot of money to them. Surely it's up to the person concerned what they spend their money on.

There was an article recently in which gwyneth paltrow gave her top gift list "for him" recently, one of them was a rug with a silhouette of "his head" with a stupid price tag. Why TF would anyone want that?! Another was a room spray with a silly price tag. I don't know anyone who'd want that at that price, least of all dh.

Some people have more money than sense and the world is mad.

sugarice · 29/05/2012 12:34

Madness. The most I've paid is £45 and I'm currently using a £13 one from Boots which feels exactly the same and seems pretty good.Even if I was loaded I wouldn't dream of coughing up that much.

coraltoes · 29/05/2012 12:35

all depends on the cut of your cloth. If you earn £455 in a week it seems bonkers. If you earn £455 a day maybe a bit less so. It seems strange value to me for face cream (something i consider pretty intangible when it comes to quality), but i wouldn't think twice about spending that amount on a nice coat or bag...

Kewcumber · 29/05/2012 12:40

becasue when you have money dripping out of your ears you have to buy something with it. Or perhaps the unusually gullible who really beleive that it will make a difference.

DonkeyTeapot · 29/05/2012 12:40

I think that with most things, the more you pay, the better quality you get, but surely there has to be a ceiling? A point at which a given product cannot really be any better, and whacking an extra zero on the price doesn't make it any better.

In the case of watches, phones, jewellery etc, obviously shoving a few extra diamonds on there will do the trick, but face cream? What can they really do to it, to make it worth that?

If I were in the realms of the super rich, maybe I'd consider getting a £55 face cream, rather than a £3 one. But I very much doubt that I would just throw away vast piles of cash "because I could." Maybe that's just me.

IAmNotACowbag · 29/05/2012 12:43

I think, if I were in such a rich position, I'd rather fill a pool with notes and swim through them.

QuietNinjaMakingDecisions · 29/05/2012 13:00

More money than sense?
