I am dead classy, but live in genteel shabbiness. :o

Though I am American so right away that sets me back.

summerintherosegarden · 29/05/2012 18:53

Manic you'll have to come over. There's marble cake in the tin and chocolate cake in the freezer (bits I cut off from a wedding cake I made - food waste does not happen in this house!)

I use a fork but you don't have to - DH certainly doesn't; he wouldn't be able to inhale a slice at a time if he did!

Mrsjay · 29/05/2012 19:15

oo cake and a fork option save me a slice Grin

To everyone wondering what class they are, it is simple.

If you are NOT SURE you are lower middle.

I am working class.

I have a degree in law from Oxbridge and make my living writing novels, running various businesses and lecturing. I am married to a city boy. I have dogs, horses and two DC in private school...

I am working class.

SilveryMoon · 29/05/2012 19:23

Lower middle?
There was me thinking it was lower or middle or upper.
Lower middle.

I use cake forks, dp uses a spoon, makes me cringe when I see it!
I grew up on a council estate, didn't go to college or uni.
I use lol in posts/texts.
I have a mooncup and a mn scarf.
Must be lower middle then Wink

orangeandlemons · 29/05/2012 19:28

Explain the pubes please. I have them...

MrsBucketxx · 29/05/2012 19:33

i don't get the pubes thing either.

Mrsjay · 29/05/2012 19:35

I think the pubes thing is for the younger woman not a class thing or is it ? pubes thread other day seemed to be younger women who took pubes off some were just a tidy up

I'm confused too.
I said to another poster that she'd think my dc were privileged if she met them. The impression I gave her it was shagmundfreud was that we live in a Surrey mansion with a fleet of cars and servants.

Then I remembered: (a) we all have thick regional accents; (b) we live in a semi-detached house in the North of England; (c) We only have one car: (d) we shop at Aldi; (e) both sets of grandparents exist on less an income of less than £20,000 pa; (f) We recently went to Butlins.

Confused Grin

Dammit, Chandon beat me to it.

What Chandon said.

SneakyBiscuitEater · 29/05/2012 19:50

Do the fox test. You see a fox in your garden, do you...

A, throw a can of special brew at it?
B, get your children to draw a picture of it and send it to Blue Peter?
C, hunt it on horseback?

A= Lower class
B= Middle class
C= Upper class

I know the difference between too, to and two, but I'm crap at typing so you could be forgiven for having assumed I didn't. Ditto there, their and they're

Don't read newspapers, my Spanish isn't ood enough, but used to read the London Evening Standard before I went forrin.

Now use private Drs because were we live the alternative is potentially dangerous. Under qualified staff rather than those impersonators who occassioaly pop up in the news over there. Ditto schools here.

Grew up on a council estate in inner London, staunchly WC parents, so why have I just had a conversation with my pool maintainence guy?Confused

Neither I nor OH went to univerasty, but he has his own business. I would work if I could earn enough to cover the travel and child care costs, not going to happen as I'm a foreign woman.

I like to talk about things openly and deal with issues rather than just get on with things. OH would rather I just shut up and get on with things.

The house is never clean enough for the OH's liking.

My favourite biscuits are those hard Italian cantuccini for dunking in coffee or dipping in red wine, they don't work with beer- trust me on that one.

I buy Haribo, but only because one of the DDs is allergic to the food colouring in the locally made sweets

I have tried, numerous times, to get my MC OH to appreciate a Thia green chicken curry, but he doesn't like "that coconut stuff" that goes in it, he'd rather a proper chicken tikka masala.

See, his MC upbringing has given him much stronger WC traits than my WC upbringing gave me.

So, I have no clue, someone else is going to have to decide for meGrin, if anyone is sufficiently interested.

SilveryMoon · 29/05/2012 20:36

I would do the fox test, but don't have a garden. I am so under-class!
