The park next to my house, the beach, the promenade - covered in carry out bags, bottles and tins, fast food boxes, the remains of picnics etc. It's disgusting, broken glass on the beach is very dangerous and it is just horrible to look at.

Yes, tourists are good for the local economy, but tbh, looking at the wreckage today, I'd far rather they just stayed at home. Wankers.

WTAF is someone thinking when they sit and eat or drink 15' from a bin then just leave their waste at their arse?

I am thinking of emailing the local paper where most of the touroids come from, to point out how foul they are, but I imagine most of them wouldn't give a shit. Sad

Manky fuckers. Angry

yanbu

but why are the local council not clearing it up regularly?
I appreciate that they shouldn't have to, people ought to dispose of it properly, but given that they aren't..

I think that people should sort their own fucking rubbish out. Bag it up, take it home, put it in a bin or next to a bin.

Councils don't get the rubbish fairies to come along and do it for free. Council tax payers spend millions every year to clear up other people's litter.

But god forbid a Council issues issues a fixed penaly notice. Then it's a fit of the vapours by the Daily Fail about the new police state.

sorry that sounded really aaaargh. I have had a horrid day.

Geranium3 · 28/05/2012 20:55

i totally agree with you, same where we live. Often when i am on the beach i see large groups together having a jolly picnic and they literally go off the beach and leave their rubbish where they were sitting not even gathered up in carrier bags or black sacks, does my head in!!! don't get me started on dog poo on the beach, some people are so disgusting and thick, though the rubbish and dog poo can also be blamed on residents in cornwall as well as tourists. The times i have politely asked people to clear up their rubbish and every time i get a mouthful of abuse back.

The council have people out each morning usually, who do the streets and the promenade. But the beach generally isn't touched it seems, and the park was filthy this morning during the school run, and although it was lifted by this evening, there is still broken glass all over the place, in the grass and on the paths.

There are supposed to be enforcement officers, but I don't think they start until the "proper" summer. Given that town was absolutely heaving this weekend, you would think there could have been some flexibility!

Mind you, geranium, we are not supposed to even have our dogs on the popular bit of beach (ie, the handy bit) in the height of the season - a few irresponsible knobbers again ruining it for everyone else. There are dog poo bins every 100 yards!

actually here there are on the spot fines for littering, works quite well and our town is mostly clean.
