To complain about school

DS is in year 8 and his regular English teacher wasn't there today so the head of English taught them. Since its hot she opened a fire door which leads out to metal steps. DS had a headache and asked to stand outside and the teacher refused. Apparently he kept asking and the teacher said she wasn't letting him out. She told him if he was really ill to go to the office so be did and I've had to collect him. He now admits he doesn't feel ill but he did have a headache which he feels would have been fine if he'd been allowed out! Aibu? The teacher shouldn't have kept him in should she?

I'm thinking of starting a collection of insane parental complaints about teachers on MN so that when people start banging on about how easy teachers have it I can just link and say 'Look at the bollocks we have to deal with when we should be marking or planning'.

Where is OP? She needs to come back and hang her head in shame admit how unreasonable she was being. :o

LaurieFairyCake · 28/05/2012 16:54

There is no way this is real.

No one is THAT FUCKING STUPID unless the OP has heatstroke?

If the OP is THAT FUCKING STUPID then congratulations, you win the DARWIN AWARD of the year for being the biggest fuckwit this side of Fuckwittown.

Dprince · 28/05/2012 17:21

I have just showed the op (only) to dd who is almost 8. Can you guess what she said? She asked 'why would you want to go outside if you have headache? The sun will make it worse.' both me and dd think yabu. She thinks he was 'skiving'. I think the only person you should be mad at is your dc.

BellaVita · 28/05/2012 17:23

YABVU

LoopyLoopsCorgiPoops · 28/05/2012 17:27

Every day, most lessons someone wants to leave the class for some inane reason or other. The only sensible thing is to say no to all or most requests, or we'd have the little blighters all over the place. A teacher is responsible for the class's safety and whereabouts.

As they all said above, YABU, but I think you probably know that now.

morethanpotatoprints · 28/05/2012 17:34

Yabu. What if the headache was a flu symptom or something and he felt dizzy and fell down the stairs. The teacher was doing her job well, imo

I like noblegiraffe's idea. Someone needs to start a list.

McHappyPants2012 · 28/05/2012 17:56

it is has been really sunny, so going outside in bright sunlight would of made the headache worse.

a dark room is far better way to deal with a headache

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 28/05/2012 18:12

Both my children thought the ds was taking the piss, and that the teacher would have known if she'd let him out everyone would start wanting to go on the fire escape.

I want OP to come back!

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/05/2012 18:12

Skiving little shister. I admire his style and the way he has you wrapped around his little finger but Dprince's DD is right. He was trying it on.

RandomNumbers · 28/05/2012 18:16

amazeballs, a totally unanimous YABU

well done OP

GetDownNesbitt · 28/05/2012 18:19

I would have done exactly the same as the teacher did. YABU.

Salmotrutta · 28/05/2012 18:20

That should surely be totes unanimous YABU?

LynetteScavo · 28/05/2012 18:20

YABU.

Since when did a headache go because you stand outside (probably in the sun). He wanted out of the lesson.
So he went to the office...who sent him home.

The teacher did absolutely the right thing!

Salmotrutta · 28/05/2012 18:21

And I want the DS OP to come back too!

ilovesooty · 28/05/2012 18:22

You can add me to the YABU. He was just trying to get out of doing any work and if she'd said yes half a dozen of them would have made the same request.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/05/2012 18:31

If any of mine tried to tell me that standing in the blazing sun would have staved off a headache, I would laugh myself sick - it is utterly ridiculous.

OP - you should be bollocking him for wasting the teacher's time, the secretary's time and your time.

FallenCaryatid · 28/05/2012 18:43

What a lovely thread to come home to, a unanimous YABU.
OP, if you ever come back, please describe your son to us.
Lively? Spirited? Independent and original thinker? Confident with adults? Able to see opportunities in a new situation?
The euphemisms just roll off the tongue. It must be report-writing season.

huddlecuddle · 28/05/2012 18:44

I am back, after absolutely screaming like a mad woman at DS for about an hour. I'm sorry - heatstroke probably isn't far off it. Because of my silly, selfish DS I'm in trouble at work and I was so annoyed and upset I rattled the AIBU off. Of course I won't complain about the teacher. DS however will apologise. So sorry. No more swearing please - can't handle it. Only just managing not to fall apart just now.

Group hug for huddlecuddle. Never AIBU in anger or drunk.

ginmakesitallok · 28/05/2012 18:47

How did you get into trouble at work? Confused
