To feel so angry about our neighbours constantly 'visiting' our garden and house!

Firstly I hate cats anyway. But our neighbour has 3 Siamese cats. They are horrible, aggressive, territorial cats who use our garden as a toilet, and come in to our house if a door is left open (which in this weather is quite a lot)!
They even climb in to the car when I'm unloading the shopping.
One night last summer when it was really hot I found one in my DD's bedroom. It was 4am. It scared the he'll out of me!
I HATE cats and feel like I can't have my doors or windows open because of them!
It's ridiculous. Can I do anything about it? So far I've bought all of the so-called anti-cat devices & plants etc Needless to say, none of them work!

Whoops (blush) forgot to say CATS

TartyMcFarty · 26/05/2012 21:39

Hate to say it, but the best solution we found was to get a cat of our own.

Shutupanddrive · 26/05/2012 21:39

Water pistol? I would

BarredfromhavingStella · 26/05/2012 21:42

Fancy a dog? I find that they are quite good at getting rid of cats that don't belong to you.........Wink

Sirzy · 26/05/2012 21:43

YANBU

I would go with the water pistol idea, won't hurt them but should scare them off. Worked when we had a similar problem with a neighbours cat!

swampster · 26/05/2012 21:46

I've always liked the thought of a water pistol filled with sugary water. Not tried it... yet.

TartyMcFarty · 26/05/2012 21:48

Water pistol won't work long term. Card are thick.

TartyMcFarty · 26/05/2012 21:48

cats are thick.

Springforward · 26/05/2012 21:48

Water pistol. Definitely.

stinkymice · 26/05/2012 21:50

yes just get a water pistol and shoot them.

Piffpaffpoff · 26/05/2012 21:52

Sonic repeller things have worked well for us. Used to get at least one cat poo a day on the lawn but not a thing since we got them.

PigeonPie · 26/05/2012 21:54

Does the sonic repeller thing stop them coming into the house though? We've had a similar problem and I don't particularly like cats either.

OP YANBU!

longbay · 26/05/2012 21:55

Thanks guys but unfortunately tried the whole water thing. Water pistols, super soakers, cups, buckets, the hose!
They really are the most arrogant little f'ers.
Last week I was in the car trying to park on MY drive and this bloody cat just lay there, stretched out, and didn't move an inch!
I revved the engine, thinking that it would move but it didn't!
I ended up having to get my fat 25wks pregnant arse out of my car and shout at it to move!

HermioneE · 26/05/2012 21:58

Got any friends you can borrow a dog from for a few weeks?

Catsdontcare · 26/05/2012 22:02

Cats aren't thick they just don't give a toss

Piffpaffpoff · 26/05/2012 22:06

Throw stones? We used to do that before the sonic repellers.

The sonic things throw out a triangular shaped area of cat-unfriendly noise so I guess if you could angle one so that the doorway was in the noise area, they shouldn't come in.

auntpetunia · 26/05/2012 22:07

sonic repeller things and that prick a strip fence topper stuff is working wonders in our garden at present... all fences around the garden are topped with the stuff and the buggers who live at the back can't get near. I keep alternating the position of the sonic things but so far 4 weeks cat poo free I am feeling confident we have got rid of them. if you can stop them getting into your garden they won't be able to get into the house surely, unless they use the front door.

And as for the cat on the drive, I would have just driven at it, it would have moved in the end or got squished.

LittleJennyRobyn · 26/05/2012 22:08

was just about to yes to the water pistol or the hose, as usually cats soon get the message after being squirted a few times. But as this is not working then have you tried scaring them??

Screech, make a loud noise, stamp feet, clap hands anything you can think of,
It might work.
Or another thing that may work, i used this to train my cats not to scratch my rug and climb my christmas tree. Is to get a citrus smelling air freshener (just a cheapy one) and as soon as you see one then spray in the general direction of the cat. (not directly at it though)

Not only do they hate the smell but they hate the noise as they think another cat is hissing at them

I have cats myself this does not deter others from coming in, i have had 3 different cats come in to my house over this last week all of them seem to know where my cats food is kept.

longbay · 26/05/2012 22:13

Piffpaff - tried The sonic thing. Unfortunately it didn't work.

I know it sounds ridiculous but these cats are infamous in our neighborhood. They harass and attack other neighbors cats and crap in people's gardens who live a few streets away.

The lady I bought the house from obviously never mentioned them when we were viewing the property but as soon a s we bought the house she wouldn't shut up about how awful these damn cats were!

As much as I hate them I don't really want to throw stones at them.

OP posts:
longbay · 26/05/2012 22:17

Littlejenny I've done all of those things. I go nuts when I find them inside the house or garden. I clap, shout etc they occasionally run away but sometimes they just WALK away.

Done the whole citrus smell thing too. Mum gave me some plants that were citrus scented that was s'posed to deter them but didn't.

akaemmafrost · 26/05/2012 22:21

Bucket of water outside the door. Chuck it over them when you see them in the garden. You'll only have to do it once

HelenBaaBaaBlackSheep · 26/05/2012 22:22

Throw stones?

Seriously??

RandomMess · 26/05/2012 22:22

Siamese are renowned for particularly stubborn - water in a spray bottle that hisses may be more effective.

How about small bean bags or something to throw at them? Won't cause damage and should give you a good shot?

You can't stop them wandering but they will learn that you are openly hostile.

Agree with trying various sonic things in the garden too.

Look on siamese cat breed to see if there is anything they particularly don't like.

akaemmafrost · 26/05/2012 22:23

Oh seen you've tried the bucket. I have always find that very effective myself.

DeckSwabber · 26/05/2012 22:23

I used to have a cat that came into the house, taking my cats food and upsetting them.

I set the cat flap so that the cats could come in but not get out, then when the strange cat came in I chased it round the kitchen for a bit - it couldn't get out and was spooked enough not to come in my house again for fear of being trapped. I didn't enjoy it but it worked.
