..to be annoyed that my postman has written my house number in marker pen on my uPVC front door

Ok so I don't have the house number (3 digits) screwed up anywhere on my front door but ...after a few times of the post man putting next doors post through my door and me being in when this happens, I open the door and give it back to him and say this is for next door.

I've come home today so see my house number written in black marker pen on my white uPVC door. Not huge but still obvious!

Both my neighbours have their numbers on their doors so surely it's not that difficult to work out my number?

Must add .. Where I live you don't go in the front door often... We park at the back and come through the back garden. I do have my house number on my back gate so a number on the front would only be needed for a postman as all other deliveries etc come to the back.

Yanbu I'd go nuts if someone wrote on my door.

Yes it's helpful to have a number but writing one on is Shock

OmgATalkingOnion · 15/01/2013 16:35

Doh fell for a zombie threadHmm Can't old threads be made to look different or stand out as such?

twinklesparkles · 15/01/2013 16:38

Its called vandalism.. Ring the police

Can you get it off? :(

fuzzywuzzy · 15/01/2013 16:40

Ah, this makes sense, someone wrote the house number on my new UPVC door in red marker ages ago, I was always vaguely puzzled by it.

It was unnecessary as I've a council sign on the from of my house stating the numbers the houses are eg 55-84 pretend street & neighbours house is 57 which is obvious I'm therefore 55.

I did eventually get round to putting house number on my front door.

Still clears up a vague mystery. Thanks for that OP.

It's a legal requirement that house numbers are clearly displayed. The act dates from 1847 and should be enforced by your local Borough Council. The current fine is I think £20.00.

Have a Star for the strangest, nerdiest zombie re-animation ever.

lilwelshyrs · 16/01/2016 04:47

Grin @ fidel that's made my sleepless night a little funnier Grin

I'd also be annoyed. But you don't know it was the postie and can't prove it either. You haven't bothered to put your house number up which is just odd imo...
Most importantly, why don't you just pop the post round next door yourself, assuming you're physically able to of course? Or do you like to hand it back with a sarky comment about it being misdelivered? If so, you're lucky it was only house numbers he drew ;)

I don't think you'll get far complaining, just buy some nice door number stickers and pop them over the top.

Ugh.... Must learn to look at dates...

I think the postie will have saved his sentence by now. Or they will have a new door Grin

Leelu6 · 16/01/2016 09:12

YABU for not having your door number uo on your home.

Stop freeloading of your neighbours' door numbers.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/01/2016 09:12

yABU for not reading thread and still posting an arsey comment.

Whatdoidohelp · 16/01/2016 09:12

Yanbu but why don't u have numbers? What if there was an emergency - you want police ambulance etc faffing about wasting time Hmm

Leelu6 · 16/01/2016 09:13

Oops, fell for zombie thread.

Believeitornot · 16/01/2016 09:14

I know it is a zombie thread but I'd love to have known whodunnit

Leelu6 · 16/01/2016 09:15

Fanjo, just annoyed as i'm nearly the only one on my side that has my door number up. I feel sorry for postpeople, etc.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/01/2016 09:18

Leelu I see..you have door related issues.

Why not go and write their numbers on like the postie in OP? Grin

Leelu6 · 16/01/2016 09:26

Ha, I'm tempted now! I'm quite proud of my Tunisian door number tiles! Practical and sentimental.

Sad state of affairs when the postman compliments you on having your door number up, as mine did. But then, they are exotic. ;)

fidel1ne · 16/01/2016 09:28

"freeloading of your neighbours' door numbers." Grin

DeoGratias · 16/01/2016 09:29

Sounds like you broke the law by not having your number up! Buy some proper numbers immediately and stick them over the handwritten numbers which were probably written by a neighbour not the postman anyway.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/01/2016 09:30

Shame reading the thread isn't legally binding Wink

LagunaBubbles · 16/01/2016 09:42

Zombie thread or not I need to know who done it!!!

Jbck · 16/01/2016 09:50

It was a two time zombie thread which makes it even stranger. Is there a MN house number troll related to the MN poo troll?

WoodliceCollection · 16/01/2016 09:59

Marker pen is soluble in acetone (nail varnish remover). /labcoat
But get some numbers, it's not up to postie to work it out, they are under time restrictions.
