sorry - Daily Fail link

particularly the second woman in but basically all of them. What is the real need to have such low cut/high cut bottoms? Does it make them more aerodynamic or something?

OP posts:

Of course I don't know the said owner of the said peachy arse. I did read the interview she gave in which she said posing in her pants made her feel "more confident", and wondering what have we done to teenage girls to make them feel posing in skimpies is more empowering than the best education in the country.

Oh and I said pornification because I don't see any male sportsmen feeling the need to have a weekly bikini wax to enhance their performance, do you?

kensingtonkat · 24/05/2012 20:38

Pornification, too, because the women think they're in charge - and they certainly aren't.

squeakytoy · 24/05/2012 20:39

it still has nothing to do with porn though...

catgirl1976 · 24/05/2012 20:40

I'm pretty sure the male swimmers wax, and the divers etc

ShellyBoobs · 24/05/2012 20:43

I thought the clothing is because it's a beach sport and both sexes traditionally wear beachwear to play in?

Shakey1500 · 24/05/2012 20:46

And male cyclists wax their legs.

aldiwhore · 24/05/2012 21:04

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Linford Christie famed for his huge penis in his tight shorts? Did that distract from the fact he was fast, was he opressed and downtrodden?

Whilst its juvenile that possible some spectators will be watching their arses, they do not mind, and their focus is still mostly on actually doing well. No one cries "oppression" when synchronised swimmers flash gusset, its something to go with or get over.

Personally I LOATHE speedos, I am only disappointed that whilst the rest of the world has spent many years trying to get rid of them on males, some bloody women start wearing them. They're hideous. Saying that, they're no more hideous than many sportswear (think shell suits) and no more revealing than others (think body-building).

I find all this argument mildly depressing... if they were forced to wear woollen pantaloons, there's be outcry, if they wear little, outcry. Much as I hate speedos and think they're completely unflattering (oh shoot me, I'm a feminist that like flattering things) I find it actually rather refreshing that these women obviously don't give a stuff whether they're skimpy OR unflattering and are brilliant at what they do... it they were to be complete volleyball popular traditionalists, they'd be forced to have boob jobs and fanny uplifts, botox and a cal-a-for-i-a smile too, at which point, if one of them objected, I'd be first in line to sign a petition.

And so what if men get off on it and miss the whole point? So the fuck what? I got off on Linford's pouch for years and completely miss the point of running fast for a few metres.

aldiwhore · 24/05/2012 21:07

So cross I've littered my post with typos just for the pedants.

And I am very sorry but if being truly liberated means I have to be as unattractive to both myself, my fellow women and men at all possible times, then I will kindly take my leave into the last century and be happier with that.

catgirl1976 · 24/05/2012 21:56

Bloody well said aldi

WhiffyBell · 24/05/2012 21:59

You know what worries me? They HAVE to wear that in England. ENGLAND.

They're gonna get cold snatches.

JosephineCD · 24/05/2012 22:02

Is foxy boxing in the olympics now as well?

JosephineCD · 24/05/2012 22:03

Oh and I said pornification because I don't see any male sportsmen feeling the need to have a weekly bikini wax to enhance their performance, do you?
Don't get many hairy swimmers, male or female. Duncan Goodhew had no hair at all!

aldiwhore · 24/05/2012 22:31

Most male sportsmen have biweekly waxes... weekly is too much for anyone!! Cyclists, boxers, football players, - part of the reason I don't gawp at sport a lot and only really like good old hairy wobbly thighed rugby. THAT is porn for me.

If its a crime to a) be a sexual being and b) get off on what makes you tick (I like mexican forearms) and c) miss the point of the skill involved. Then I'm guilty. I'm a pervy weirdo who will only tune into the olympics for the totty.

That doesn't make the players oppressed. Its makes me sad. And very happy.

Hownoobrooncoo · 24/05/2012 23:05

People are saying they have to wear such skimpy bikinis, is this true? Doesn't seem to be according to several articles.

eurochick · 24/05/2012 23:13

They made the bottoms smaller a few years ago. I think there is a maximum width for the sides.

A friend of mine used to be on the GB team. She was a very bright Cambridge grad. She was on the GB netball team but apparently it was horrendously bitchy so she switched to beach volleyball instead. She was a very impressive sportswoman. She was over 6' and if she wore a crop top clubbing (this was a few years back) men were incredibly intimidated by her height and her 6 pack. As the more approachable looking friend, I used to do quite well out of it. :)

Hownoobrooncoo · 24/05/2012 23:20

Volleyball is a great game, shame to see people trash it so much, it's fab and very skilled.

Freshletticia · 25/05/2012 00:00

I love that a gay colleague of mine and her partner have tickets for the womens' volleyball. Bet they have a ball!

IronCurtain · 25/05/2012 05:56

I agree Hownoobrooncoo. I played volleyball at competitive level for a few years and I never cared about how I looked in the outfit. If people thought I was silly and unintelligent for playing the sport I loved ... Well sorry, but that is just offensive.

Whatmeworry · 25/05/2012 07:21

What Aldiwhore said.

MN Harrumphing at it's finest.....

bettybat · 25/05/2012 08:02

I am more, severely disappointed that the official boxing body tried to make female boxers wear skirts in the ring for the first Olympics women are actually allowed to box.

Skirts! Allowed to box! In skirts! Makes me very indignant.

Anyway, to say these women - who dedicated their entire careers to get into their nations' teams, are first and foremost athletes - wear bikinis because they are silly, unthinking, downtrodden little women is to do them a massive disservice and completely undermines what they do exactly represent. Which in case you missed it, is extreme athletic prowess, dedication and skill Grin

Morloth · 25/05/2012 08:04

Ouch, sand wedgies.

I find I just don't care though...

RevoltingPeasant · 25/05/2012 08:14

You know, I would normally never EVER say anything like this but.....

Some of the women on the beach VB link don't actually look that 'sporty'. I mean, compared to me, obviously they do, but compared to people like Jess Ennis say - is that just me?

catgirl1976 · 25/05/2012 08:51

I didn't want to say it either, but they are not all "model" types, which makes me more sure that they are in it for the sport, not the chance to wear a bikini

Although, the fact they had, through prowess, skill and dedication got in the Olympic team for GB, rather than just gone to Benidorm kinda made me think that anyway Grin

catgirl1976 · 25/05/2012 08:52

But then a mean, bitchy part of me thought that Beach Volley ball must not burn too many calories Blush

squeakytoy · 25/05/2012 08:54

lol.. have you ever tried to run on sand, it is knackering!!!
