sorry - Daily Fail link

particularly the second woman in but basically all of them. What is the real need to have such low cut/high cut bottoms? Does it make them more aerodynamic or something?

OP posts:
kensingtonkat · 24/05/2012 19:30

Designing the spec of the uniforms, I meant.

In a related note, do swimmers still wear those full-body all in ones that were supposed to be more aerodynamic than human skin?

Shakey1500 · 24/05/2012 19:31

Well, maybe the "silly women" want to catch a tan whilst representing their country Hmm

Multi tasking Grin

kensingtonkat · 24/05/2012 19:34

Strange if true Shakey that the women are desperate to tan, and the men aren't.

Shakey1500 · 24/05/2012 19:37

They may not be "desperate", just seeing an opportunity. I agree, I can't see the practicality with regards the actual performance of the sport. But i rather think they would object to being called "silly women". Nobody's forcing them to wear it are they?

kensingtonkat · 24/05/2012 19:39

Erm, yes, they are being forced. The Olympic costumes are all regulated. If they were intelligent, they'd stand up for themselves and refuse to go along with such nonsense.

oopsi · 24/05/2012 19:41

Don't runners wear similar
paula Radcliffe

catgirl1976 · 24/05/2012 19:43

Maybe they like them Kensington?

Shakey1500 · 24/05/2012 19:44

Nonsense they're being forced! If they objected that much they'd bow out. Why must they be "silly" and "unintelligent"

Do they look uncomfortable wearing it? Do they look happy to be doing a sport they love? Do they look proud?

Or do they look devastated they they have NO option but to wear it? Downtrodden? Unmotivated? No.

And they could, as was posted above, wear the all in one swimsuit as the regulatory costume. they chose not to.

kensingtonkat · 24/05/2012 19:45

Maybe they like the attention, catgirl?

It must make you so proud to be admired for your ass than your sporting prowess.

Strange that male marathon runners don't benefit from getting their arse cheeks out, either.

catgirl1976 · 24/05/2012 19:47

Maybe they do kensington, maybe they just love beach volley ball, maybe they think they are comfy, maybe they hate them, who knows? Maybe we should ask them.............or maybe they are too "silly" to have an opinion so you should just decide for the,

catgirl1976 · 24/05/2012 19:48

for them even

Shakey1500 · 24/05/2012 19:49

kensingtonkat or you could just be wrong.

kensingtonkat · 24/05/2012 19:58

Let's ask them - Mumsnet, over to you, let's get them in for an interview.

Interesting, one of the Cambridge undergraduates posing with her pants up her crack this week said it made her feel "confident".

How the fuck have we allowed young women to think that flashing your asscheeks at strangers can endow you with confidence, but a degree from Cambridge cannot?

catgirl1976 · 24/05/2012 20:06

Is there much point?

If they say they like it they will be a) brainwashed b) forced to for sponsorship purposes c) dismissed as stupid or d) handmaidens

catgirl1976 · 24/05/2012 20:08

BTW - I don;t like the outfits as I think they look uncomfortable, unflattering and I don't get them personally.

I just dont think there is much mileage in asking them if they are happy to wear them when if they say they are they will be met with one of more of those accusations

Shakey1500 · 24/05/2012 20:10

Maybe it's a combination of having the degree and having a sporty physique that makes her feel confident. Who is anyone to argue that simply can't be the case? That it MUST be because men have designed it, that women are forced to wear it, silly, unintelligent women at that?

FuckerSnailInYourHedgerow · 24/05/2012 20:17

mayor quimby:)

kensingtonkat · 24/05/2012 20:21

Interesting point Shakey. She didn't have a sporty physique though: she just had a peachy arse.

I can see why you'd make a big deal of your peachy arse if it was all that you had going for you, but otherwise?

squeakytoy · 24/05/2012 20:21

As OOpsie says, runners wear similar, and that is most definately by choice.

bobbledunk · 24/05/2012 20:22

yabu, it's beach volleyball so the uniform has to be what you'd wear on the beach, obviously the Brazilians look better because they practically live on their hot beaches while playing this sport. Not the same thing in colder climates but it's a hot climate sport and not offensive in that context.

If the British women wanted to wear clothes, they would play indoor volleyball.

kensingtonkat · 24/05/2012 20:23

No squeaky, female runners wear similar.

Contrast what male Olympians wear with their female counterparts and tell me you see no sign of pornification.

squeakytoy · 24/05/2012 20:24

pornification??? no, I dont see any... for heavens sakes...

Shakey1500 · 24/05/2012 20:28

"pornification??" Ye gads.

So you know this person kensington? the one with the (your words) "peachy arse"? You can speak for her yes? In fact, is it you?

Or maybe she has a "peachy arse", chooses to wear what she wishes and has a happy well adjusted life? Do we know for sure or is it pure assumption based on....not a lot really.

Scheherezade · 24/05/2012 20:36

happy they don't choose to, they have to wear those, its the sports governing body that sets the rules for outfits.
