My band just got confirmed for a festival in August - I was very excited, but when I told the guys they all said, "But you're pregnant!" They think the festival's h&s insurance won't cover me, I think it's nobody's business but mine?

I dont really see a problem with it in theory. My second trimester was the easiest bit!

Incaminka · 24/05/2012 11:13

:) that's what I thought
Maxi dress, floaty scarves, no problem?

But you're pregnant! Cleary that renders you incapable of carrying a handbag, much less performing on stage? Hmm

Incaminka · 24/05/2012 11:19

Lol. You know, I'm starting to wonder if I've been on the end of a major pisstake by the guys and didn't notice they were having a laugh?
I can be a bit serious...

You go girl, and have a wonderful time. Well done for getting the gig! :)

Incaminka · 24/05/2012 11:24

Thank you, I'm thrilled!

Wasn't one of Mindless Self Indulgence pregnant when they did the Kerrang tour 2009?

Then there was Beyonce, Pink, Mariaaaaah Carey...

ErikNorseman · 24/05/2012 13:46

You must! Why on earth not? I went to a festival when I was 9 months pregnant Grin apart from sleeping on an airbed which I don't recommend it was great.

Incaminka · 24/05/2012 13:48

Yes, I think I'm going to tell the guys that following consideration of their concerns, I cancelled it - rattle their cage a little! :-D

LynZ from Mindless Self Indulgence did indeed continue to tour through her pregnancy and she's not known for sedate performances, much like P!nk.

If we want RL people then a friend of mine played bass in a local band until she was 30 something weeks and it was really too awkward to hold her bass anymore Grin

AmnesiaCustard · 24/05/2012 14:06

Rubbish. I sang (properly and in public as part of a band, not just in the shower) when I was overdue.

Intro" here are three people to sing for you and if they don't hurry up there'll be four....!"

Do it.

Incaminka · 24/05/2012 14:08

Good for her! We're a bit alt/folk so no Pink -style acrobatics called for, rather sedate and floaty really. In fact, I bet the baby will enjoy it!

Amnesia I hear you, that's class!

I did it with bad morning / evening sickness, a bucket to the side of the stage behind some amps and strict instructions that if I excited sharply stage left to keep playing and bung a guitar solo in quick

BornSicky · 24/05/2012 14:20

I was working at a bunch of festivals during my second trimester. the only things that were tricky were constantly needing the loo and having to rush off to find one and getting overheated/worn out more quickly.

If you're in a band, i'd have thought it wouldn't be a problem at all.

hurrah for you!

Incaminka · 24/05/2012 14:48

We've only got a 20 minute set, so should be fine. Look at all us rockchicks/musos coming out of the woodwork!

I did a gig in my second trimester - I worried about it for about 10 minutes then just got on with it - it was fine!

I must admit it did make my usual bopping around the stage slightly more uncomfortable, so I just hung off the mic stand in what I hoped was a grungey/glamorous kind of way and tossed my hair around artistically to compensate!

Seriously, my only concern was the noise levels, but I figured DD was so well insulated it would be okay. She seems fine now...(watching her scoff a bowl of ice cream as I type Grin)

Congratulations on the festival btw Smile

Liza Carthy was very pregnant at Cambridge folk festival, she even rested her accordian on her 'sidetable'!

Incaminka · 24/05/2012 20:13

Lol, in good company then!
