To want to go to an OOH dr?

After a bad cold last week and a terrible night I have woken up with the worst sore throat ever. Coughing results in gagging (painful), swallowing own saliva just about possible (painful) and talking and breathing hurts as well. We have 3yo DS and 1yo DD that I look after, DH due to leave for work soon.
AIBU to ask him to stay to look after them while I take myself to OOH? I don't feel like I can function today at all.

Don't ask him. Tell him. It sounds like you need some antibiotics.

Hope you make it there.

Have you taken any painkillers?

TanteRose · 23/05/2012 06:09

it could be quite serious if it hurts to breathe.

Get yourself to the Drs ASAP

if it was me, I would be telling DH to take the whole day off, so you can go back to bed

nutella go to ooh..dont ask...tell him....hope you get better soon xxx

He can't just take time off though...
I have taken neurofen and paracetamol the last few days, couldnt eat more than half a sandwich tomorrow (doesn't help my energy levels)...entire body hurts.

Waiting for 6.30 to phone them, depending on how far will dump kids leave the DCs with him as we currently have no car.

Sounds like tonsillitis and this can be serious if left too long... You must go to ooh's. It is not optional - you need medical help.

Even if he cannot get time off, take them with you. Take a toy/ small snack and good luck.

Yes, you need to go by the sounds of it. If he can't take time off, can you just go and take the children?

wishiwasonholiday · 23/05/2012 06:56

Sometimes if they're out and about our ooh doctor will come to you, may be worth asking?

xkcdfangirl · 23/05/2012 07:10

Sounds like what DH had last week - he did call OOH dr and had prescription within 2 hrs and antibiotics from a 24hr pharmacy half an hour later, was feeling much better after 2 doses. The NHS is brilliant when it works. Yes it is probably tonsilitis and yes you should get it seen now - but you can take the DCs with you to the Doctor if DH can't take the time off.

OOH rang to offer me appointment at local hospital on twenty minutes which I had to decline as I can't make it that quickly. Advised to ring GP at 8.30, hopefully get an appointment (many times I have not managed to get one in which case I was told to come to A&E.
I dont even feel I can walk to GP around the corner but will do that to arrive there once they open instead of calling and being turned away. Husband has left for work Sad

When I had tonsilitis last year it was horrible. Couldn't eat or drink and felt like I'd been hit by a brick. My very lovely friend ended up taking my DD whilst DH was at work until he arranged a couple of days off. It took 10 days of antibiotics to get rid too :(

Hope you get to GP today and feel better soon
