in thinking my town council are completely out of their tree?

At the beginning of the year the train station in the middle of town looked like this.

The town council thought it looked tired and needed a facelift. Fair enough. A few weeks ago I nearly hit a tree when I saw it now looked like this.

Eventually the shock wore off and it started to grow on me. But then the weird shit started appearing. Today it looks like this, or from the other side.

As you can see here, it blends in well. Confused

I'm thinking I need to stay away from the water.

That's... blue.

It, um, contrasts hideously very well with the boring other buildings.

wants to paint house purple

bebumba · 23/05/2012 12:21

Wow! That is a blue that Matisse would have been proud of.

babyicebean · 23/05/2012 12:45

Its................its.................
very................very.............unusual

Clytaemnestra · 23/05/2012 13:04

"Clearly they've got an awful lot of your money to burn."

I doubt that the paint cost much, more likely someon paid them to take it off their hands!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 23/05/2012 14:28

Hahaha @ "do you live in balamory?"!

CaveMum · 23/05/2012 16:04

I maintain that IKEA must have had something to do with it. It's almost exactly their shade of Blue.

TheUnMember · 23/05/2012 16:10

Even IKEA have their limits :o

The blue is 'Swedish blue'. Tis very common here. I think they may have been trying to match it to the buses. You can't run to catch you bus anymore because it's too camoflaged to know if it's there.

Its growing on me now, I want a rainbow house!

AmberLeaf · 23/05/2012 16:17

Am I the only one that thinks those pics look faked?

TheUnMember · 23/05/2012 16:30

No you're not. I think they look faked too, especially the front view of the finished monstrosity. Sadly, they're for real. Here they are, pride of place on the council website.

It officially opens on Saturday with 2 hour music and dancing extravaganza including 'The Dancing Vara Firemen' pleasegodpleasegodpleasegod let me get a good view

TheUnMember · 23/05/2012 16:31

Is colour blindness a widespread problem in Sweden, or only among council members?

Do you think the plans (nearly said blueprints...) were run off the copier on the wrong settings and no one has had the nerve to speak up? A sort of Emperor's New Railway Station?

Naoko · 23/05/2012 18:40

What in the name of all that's holy.....

I think it'd have looked ok if they hadn't decided to paint the roof blue too. With a more 'natural' coloured roof it wouldn't have been as over the top. It's a bit like the house I'm living in - when I moved in everything was painted a slightly sickly mint green colour. Including the ceiling. And it has green carpets and green blinds. I painted the whole thing white and it was a massive improvement, even though the carpets are the same. If it'd just been the walls it would probably have been alright.

RustyBear · 23/05/2012 18:53

I showed DD and she said it looks like a rainbow shat on it....

TheCunnyFunt · 23/05/2012 19:09

What does 'byggnadsställningen' mean? I'm curious because it's sooooooooooo long.

:o @ shat on by a rainbow :o

Oh wow! I didnt realise it was in Sweden [the foriegn writing shouldve been a clue!]

Well its certainly different!

Cabrinha · 23/05/2012 19:20

I love it! It's striking, and fun.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 23/05/2012 19:47

Well you won't get people asking for directions to the station when they get lost...

LineRunner · 23/05/2012 19:50

They wallpapered my brother's library once. On the outside. To be fair, it did look quite nice, and some poncy arts group paid for it and kept some kids off the steet for a week.

TheUnMember · 23/05/2012 19:58

TheCunnyFunt it's very boring, it means 'scaffolding' or literally 'building steel'. Swedish is a funny language. They join words together to form other words like we do, but they don't appear to have imposed a limit on how many can be joined together. So you end up with words like realisationsvinstbeskattning (capital gains tax) and nordöstersjökustartilleriflygspaningssimulatoranläggningsmaterielunderhållsuppföljningssystemdiskussionsinläggsförberedelsearbeten (north east ... lake coast artillery ... Confused ... simulator ... zzzzzzzzz)

LineRunner · 23/05/2012 20:14

The Swedes seem to be terribly good at nordosterscunnilingus though.

TheCunnyFunt · 23/05/2012 20:17

So you could join any random words together and make new words? You could have whole conversations with just one word. I'm actually quite impressed :o

TheUnMember · 23/05/2012 20:26

Yep pretty much. Although I'm not sure when it officially becomes a new word. Probably once Skatteverket (the tax office) have used it. They seem to have control over everything else. You can't fart without their consent.
