Noqontrol · 21/05/2012 19:18

How did she break her nose?

Theeverexpandingrodders · 21/05/2012 19:18

Wise up !!!!

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/05/2012 19:19

Are you actually out any money? I don't understand why people always want to sue when medical care is free in the UK. I understand in the US, where a broken nose would cost you thousands.

AllKnickersAndNoFurCoat · 21/05/2012 19:19

More information needed.

Currently YABU.

BumpingFuglies · 21/05/2012 19:20

Compensation for what?

LadySybilDeChocolate · 21/05/2012 19:20

Hmm Sue the school and they have less money for books, that's even if you don't win. Accidents happen, get over it.

littlemisstwinkle · 21/05/2012 19:21

she fell on the school yard whilst unattended by a teacher

OP posts:
PenguinFeet1 · 21/05/2012 19:21

Would you sue a friend/relative if they were looking after her and she had a fall and injured herself?

mandoo · 21/05/2012 19:22

NO, You will be taking money from the school which would could be used to benefit your own daughters education. The sums don't add up. Think about it!

fivegomadindorset · 21/05/2012 19:22

So you expect your daughters teacher to be by her side every minute she is outside?

BumpingFuglies · 21/05/2012 19:23

Was the teacher meant to be there one-to-one?

alphabite · 21/05/2012 19:23

Would you sue if she fell at a friends house? Would you sue if she fell in a church? Would you sue if she fell at a party?

Don't be bloody rediculous. Kids fall over all the time. She was just unlucky it broke her nose. Focus on your poor child and don't be money grabbing. God I hate the Americanised sue everyone for every misfortune. It makes me sick.

McHappyPants2012 · 21/05/2012 19:23

Is this a wind up or taking the mick out of another thread

SauvignonBlanche · 21/05/2012 19:23

She just fell?
How is that she school's fault? Hmm

Babylon1 · 21/05/2012 19:24

Compensation for what exactly Confused

mysteryfairy · 21/05/2012 19:25

Was there something that equates to negligence on the part of the school?

If so it might not be unreasonable to sue and you would be looking for compensation for pain and suffering and any disfigurement as well as direct financial loss (taxis to hospital, time off work to care for her etc).

If noone has been negligent there is nothing to sue for. I can't see anything in your op to suggest anyone has been - did you miss out some pertinent detail?

AllKnickersAndNoFurCoat · 21/05/2012 19:26

I'll save you some time OP.

YABU. No one on here is going to agree that you should get 'compo' for this.

Your child fell over at school whilst in the playground and injured herself. Unless you're planning to drip-feed it doesn't sound as though there was any reason for one to one supervision. Kids fall over. They hurt themselves and sometimes they break bones. That's life.

HTH.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 21/05/2012 19:26

Do you think the teacher was negligent in some way?

LaurieFairyCake · 21/05/2012 19:26

No, she fell cos she's 4. No one 'attends' people falling over. School is not a place where teachers hold students hands constantly.

Wrap some bubble wrap round her head if you don't want her hurt.

Or buy a helmet and ensure she wears it at all times.

littlemisstwinkle · 21/05/2012 19:28

no but i wouldnt expect them to leave a 4 year old child unattended on a concrete yard and leave it 3 hours before contacting me to tell me they were just wondering if i wanted to go and look at her nose, then when i got the school they made out as they were just about to take her hospital because they knew it was broken then

OP posts:
Floggingmolly · 21/05/2012 19:29

Don't be so bloody silly Hmm. What exactly does "unattended by a teacher" mean? Considering there are usually 2 adults to approx 30 children, they won't be individually "attended to" very much at all.
Nor do they need to be. Accidents happen.

AllKnickersAndNoFurCoat · 21/05/2012 19:30

Ah. Drip-feed. Thought so.

I'd be upset that the school hadn't taken my DC to hospital and contacted me. I would discuss my concerns with the Head. If I was dissatisfied with their response I would take it up with the Board of Governers.

DreamingofSummer · 21/05/2012 19:31

You are being unreasonable and your grammar is lousy.

Noqontrol · 21/05/2012 19:31

No I don't think you should claim for her falling over. Tbh I don't think you could even claim for something like that. After all, how could the teacher stop her falling over. That sounds a bit crazy to me. If she had fallen whilst doing something dangerous (like, ermm, rock climbing or something) and the teachers had failed to use any safety equipment, then I'd think, hmmm maybe youre justified. But not for something like this. No, definitely not, wrong to even consider it.

HecateTrivia · 21/05/2012 19:31

Since you are asking, i would have to say no. compensation culture is getting ridiculous. Not everything is a claim.

Kids fall. That's not someone's fault. Kids have always fallen and will always fall. I fell off a climbing frame as a child and cut my knee to the bone. My children are more scab than child Grin

Are you going to sue yourself if your child falls over in your care? No. Why? Because kids fall! Grin

I sued the hospital that delivered my son. Because the doctor failed, when his shoulders got stuck, to perform the mcroberts manouvre that is set out clearly in cases of shoulder dystocia and instead screamed and pulled on his head so hard she caused nerve damage and left him with a lifelong disability.

THAT'S worth suing for. Actual negligence.

Not a child tripping up.
