Cul de sacs are not playgrounds....

Last bloody forty minutes spent listening to kids bounce a sodding basketball right in the middle of the road. Maybe they're going for some sort of world record?

I've gone from been mildly annoyed to hoping the bloody thing goes through their car window and not mine. I can see why the parents don't want them banging outside their window if they keep them in the back garden, but what are they thinking letting them out to play with a sodding ball in the middle of the road?

AIBU? Really?

Why has this zombie been resurrected after 4 years?

(And why torment most people under 30 and animals with a fecking annoying sound???)

OP you and the poster who said she didn't want Christmas cards littering up her beautifully decorated lounge need to live next door to each other

LouisvilleLlama · 24/12/2016 04:22

YABU I saw it explained on Pure Genius as someone was judging for letting kids play on the roads and he got injured, they showed an overhead shot of the neighbourhood and their was no real decent places to play on grass it was all roads

Yes, YABVVU.

You don't own the road

No and nor do the parents of the children playing in the road.
Roads are not playgrounds, but they are played on. I certainly play on the street as a kid. However, poeple should use public spaces with consideration for everyone. Drivers should drive with care and parents should ensure that their children don't put themselves in danger or cause a nuisance (as much as possible).

A cul-de-sac is a kids paradise
I grew up in one
Whenever I now see one that's all I see: on big playground

Marvellousmadness · 16/08/2022 15:00

FYI the plural of cul de sac is culs de sac

(Gilmore Girls ref for any fans)

Abra1d1 · 16/08/2022 15:05

I expect you open the front door if someone knocks on it unexpectedly, as well 😆

Hiya,

Under sections 79-81 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 local authorities have a duty to deal with any noise which they consider to be a statutory nuisance.

statutory nuisance is defined (In relation to noise)…..

(g) noise emitted from premises so as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance;

Noisy children in themselves are not a 'nuisance', the nuisance is their use of the football against your wall that creates the noise (Much like an electric drill or a hi-fi). It will be hard to control the volume of the children themselves, but their football is arguably the same as if they were using a loud Hi-fi, and can be controlled,

It’s been 11 years so not sure this is still relevant to the OP.

🤣. I replied to this zombie thread 10 years ago under another name.

Does anyone every read their old replies and think "I talked some crap back then" 🤣

LaLoba · 09/03/2023 23:20

A basketball is not heavy. At all. Now if it was one of those leather footballs we used to kick around as kids that’s different, but you’d have a job damaging a car window with a basketball.
I live on a cul-de-sac, am child free. I love the sound of kids playing out, it’s both nostalgic and a reminder of what a safe, lovely area I live in. Can never understand this intolerance to the sound of other people living their lives, and in my experience it usually comes from those with little consideration for how they might annoy others.

LaLoba · 09/03/2023 23:22

Goddammit, I did not see the date of the original post! 😂

Desperatetime · 10/03/2023 08:01

Yes it's annoying I agree but nothing can be done about it unfortunately.
Have you seen the photos from many years ago with children playing outside chalking the pavements etc.

Oh yes! I wish MN wouldn't keep threads for quite so long Blush

Mealiepudding · 11/03/2023 09:20

And now of course our original names show when we repost on an old thread <sigh>

SoShallINever · 11/03/2023 09:25

Ha! You'd hate our cul de sac.
The young family up the road have put traffic cones across the top of it to stop traffic flying in when their kids are out in the street.
And non of us neighbours have objected at all.
Its lovely hearing them play safely.

Yes, I know its against the law to technically block a road, but if it keeps kids safe, I'm not complaining and it only takes a moment to move them.

MN really is like a snake (viper?) eating itself.
