Just having a quick look at tax credits to see if we'll get anything at all. Fair enough we earn too much and this government are wankers who are stripping the poor so I'd rather it go to someone very needy but what annoys me is my SIL is a resident of EU and therefore can live here and claim here enjoying a much longer maternity leave than I can dream of.

I would much rather be paid a proper wage for the job that I do, than have to rely on tax credits in order to keep a roof over the DC's heads.

yes THAT is the real problem, wages not = cost of living

you are really falling for it! the govt loves that so many of you scapegoat us europeans, means they never have to be accountable for the REAL problem!

Has she got her plasma goat yet?

and I'll say it again, TCs are a BALL ACHE! I'm much rather get my wages and be able to pay for childcare and life out of that, and infact I didn't claim TCs for the first year I was entitled to it and used up savings instead to subsidise working life with a young child.

I didn't move here because claiming TCs is so AWESOME!

I mean, someone like me with a fricking degree, working a full-time responsible job, really should earn enough to - as Madonna so aptly put it, bless her - 'raise a little family', without being so relatively poor that I need to rely on state help to house my DCs.

Oops, I forgot a biggie ... if you are disabled and unemployed (but able to work) then the government pays employers to give you a 6 weeks trial. If they take you on at the end of that trial the government reimburses them half of your salary. So some employers actively seek out disabled employees.
