Just having a quick look at tax credits to see if we'll get anything at all. Fair enough we earn too much and this government are wankers who are stripping the poor so I'd rather it go to someone very needy but what annoys me is my SIL is a resident of EU and therefore can live here and claim here enjoying a much longer maternity leave than I can dream of.

If you can afford to not get tax credits and you'd prefer it went to more needy people than you I really cannot see what your issue is?

Softlysoftly · 19/05/2012 19:08

Hang on the state pays for weddings? Why did no one tell me this?!

TheUnMember · 19/05/2012 19:09

LineRunner · 19/05/2012 19:12

Yes, there are Polish Protocols, Romanian Relief Rights and Netherland Nuptial Grants. Not.

NettoSuperstar · 19/05/2012 19:12

LineRunner · 19/05/2012 19:16

UnChartered · 19/05/2012 19:16

i've been on maternity leave since 1895

QueenEdith · 19/05/2012 19:18

EU citizens are entitles to some benefits in UK (reciprocal arrangements, UK citizens can claim elsewhere in EU).

If she is getting maternity pay beyond UK statutory provision, that is because she has a more generous employer. Any of us could have that good luck (though most of is don't),

TheUnMember · 19/05/2012 19:18

Sadly I got no benefits, being British. But I had a cunning plan. I emigrated to another EU country. 1 more year to go till I can claim citizenship here. Once I get my forrin passport I'm coming back and I fully expect my goat to be ready and waiting on the quay in Harwich.

ginmakesitallok · 19/05/2012 19:20

well - my DCs great grandfather was Polish - so they are entitled to EVERYTHING|!! goats, tvs, maty leave, weddings - the whole kit and Caboodle!!! HURRAH!

NinthWave · 19/05/2012 19:20

Yeah Softly, did you not know about the Massive Fuck Off Wedding Grant from the Social Fund? Ring 'em up and ask for form SF423GIMME. Just remember to tell them that you're one of them forrins.

PickledFanjoCat · 19/05/2012 19:22

I never understand why people are jealous of those who earn less than them and therefore need tax credits. If you want to earn less simply give half your earnings away. I'll have em. Problem solved.

LineRunner · 19/05/2012 19:26

I do actually work hard and the reason I get some tax credits is because I am paid such a fucking pittance for what I do.

Damn the eu residents of this country, Especially all those who work their weight in jobs people of this country would not do, and all those who work as doctore, nurses, dentists, and pharmacians. Lets also hare all those who earn 6 figures salaries working in the city, because their taxes are supporting our benefit system.

Pedigree · 19/05/2012 20:34

And hope for me to get a better keyboard.

Thank you

TheUnMember · 19/05/2012 20:40

Pedigree you need to fill out form BLLX101-WANTAPUTER for a new keyboard.

When all the British pensioners living in Spain get kicked out and come home and start using the NHS again that will also cost a bit.

Or is the removal of "millions of EU residents" supposed to be unilateral ?

BTW I'm also living abroad (France) and the benefits Britishers living here can claim are more generous than those on offer to the French in Britain. There have been some complaints recently here about Brits coming over and abusing the French welfare state.

(This is addressed to the poster who made the comment about the relevance of the EUness, not the OP).

LineRunner · 19/05/2012 20:56

Lots of people living in Spain who are returning and will return to the UK will find that they are NOT entitled to free NHS ongoing health care.

I await Cameron and Lansley's statement with interest.

Was that your first class at uni, Unmember?

TheUnMember · 20/05/2012 22:45

Nah, first uni class was Basic Goat Maintenance And SkyPlus Programming.

stripesnotspots · 20/05/2012 22:51

Why don't you pop off to another EU country with recriprocal benefits, for a while? Maybe that'll cheer you up. Then you can be the bl++dy foreigner stealing jobs, getting benefits of a tax system. You'll probably have to settle for a lesser paid or partime job to qualify but sure you won't mind...
