Absolutely fed up with the usual Saturday routine of housework, weekly shop, sorting out crap in the house....

After recently reading Shirley Conran, and in the spirit of her phrase "Life is too short to stuff a mushroom" I would like to say......

Life is too short to bloody well dust skirting boards!

Life is too short for matching socks.

The DCs and I all wear odd socks, and although my mother despairs at it, it will never change I despair at the state of her house so we're even.

MrFunnytheEasterBunny · 19/05/2012 21:09

Life is too short not to put anything boring and house work related on hold when my son wants me to play with him, or the opportunity to sneak a cuddle with him on the couch presents itself. It's also too short not to enjoy any family time we have when my DH is about, everything else can wait.... It doesn't seem to go away anyway!

marriedinwhite · 19/05/2012 21:13

to cancel a day out because it's raining, to put off what can be done today until tomorrow - just think of all the days out in the rain.

oiwheresthecoffee · 19/05/2012 21:15

Iron. Maybe three times in my life.
colour co ordinate socks

MissPricklePants · 19/05/2012 21:17

-Ironing
-matching socks
-wasting time on housework when dd needs playing with
-bad, unenjoyable sex!

HybridTheory · 19/05/2012 23:15

Ironing - hate it! My ex next door neighbour was the last person to use my iron and they moved 2 months ago :)

OAM2009 · 19/05/2012 23:27
  • clean the floor at breakfast or lunchtime. It'll be mucky again after tea so I'll do it then. DH goes wild about cleaning the floor, I don't give one of my Flying F*s (thanks NicNoc) (actually that makes me sound a bit urrgghhh)
  • get rid of the baby stuff. We'll just chuck it in the garage till my 3yo and 1yo have kids of their own.

Weirdly, i don't mind ironing but then I do 4 DH work shirts and 2 DH work trousers every week and that's it.

Actually, life is too short for everything. Try to be happy. My mum was dead by 42. She always wanted to go and see the snooker at the Crucible.

Do what makes you happy, without hurting other people, as much as you can.

MrsKevinBridges · 19/05/2012 23:35

Life's too short to;
fret about stuff you can change
fret about stuff you can't change

ninah · 19/05/2012 23:35

husbands

Changethatbulb · 19/05/2012 23:43

Life is too short:

  • to iron stuff until you need it. Just stuff it in the drawer. Who gives a shit.
  • to waste your life with a cocklodger
  • I have a son with a serious illness. I couldn't care less if he doesn't brush his teeth or sleeps in his daytime clothes. Life is too short. I will pick my battles when he is older - if he makes it that far.
thebody · 19/05/2012 23:52

Life is too short .... End of... As posters above and at being a pain in the arse, hug Dcs ... Life too short not too. We had police knock on the Door in feb, dd badly injured, in France, getting better but issues, count blessings,

But still hate ironing!!!!!

Mrsjay · 19/05/2012 23:55

ironing , iron as your wear if you have to but to stand and iron for ages is pointless .

marriedinwhite · 19/05/2012 23:57

.....just having a little mnet, having emptied the ironing basket. Sorry to hear some of you are having a hard, sad time.

Changethatbulb · 20/05/2012 00:00

Oh, just realised my last post was waaaaaaaaaay too serious.

Apologies.

  • Life is to short to eat cheap choc-ices.
  • Also agree with not staying in a job you hate. I career-changed at 25 and loved every minute of my new working life
  • I don't dust skirting boards. I have a ridiculously heavy vaccum (sic?) that I haul round once a week. Don't even ask me about mopping....

Changethatbulb, hope DD is fully recovered soon Smile

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 20/05/2012 20:54

Reindeer totally agree about the socks - why should they match?

knowotumean · 20/05/2012 20:57

to earn loads of money beyond what we need (unless good at money making and good at philanthropy!)

MollyMission · 20/05/2012 21:06

.... to not seize the moment

Malificence · 20/05/2012 21:22

To spend time with and be to nice people you can't stand, family especially.

SilkStalkings · 20/05/2012 21:25

Unpaid overtime - get a life, you are not irreplaceable to your employer but you are to your family.
Ironing jeans or kids clothes (or anything really - have you not heard of lycra?)

Ponders · 20/05/2012 21:36

re ironing

DD1 has discovered that hair straighteners do a great job on eg shirt fronts & fabric belts in an emergency Grin

Ponders · 20/05/2012 21:38

hardly anything is worth queueing for

unless they're handing out free money

monkeymiss · 20/05/2012 21:57

House extensions, renovations, DIY etc. These have sapped years of our energy and marred the early years of our DCs lives. Although until it becomes cheaper and easier to Get Someone In, we'll have to see this one through!!

Life is more than a house.

monkeymiss · 20/05/2012 21:59

And, at the moment because I need to go and hang them out, washable nappies :)
