To have spent over £40 on a dermalogica cleanser today?

Balked at the price but fell for their reputation. Weighing up whether to use it tonight or take it back tomorrow. (It was the largest sized bottle I bought btw, thought I'd better get best 'value').

Ah I will be watching this thread with interest as I also had dermalogica recommended to me and priced it up today but baulked a bit at the price and thought I would look into it a bit more first, I do seem to have dreadful skin lately so would be money well spent it it lives up to its hype!

perceptionreality · 18/05/2012 22:05

Dermalogica is reasonably good (I am trained in its use) - they have some products in their range which I particularly like - their multi-vitamin mask for example. Also their barrier repair serum.

Which cleanser is it? All of the ones I have used are decent products and skin feels very clean after using them. Cleansing is the most important thing you can do (even more important that moisturising).

perceptionreality · 18/05/2012 22:06

Most of the time I use MD Formulations but sometimes I choose the odd Dermalogica product to put into my routine.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 18/05/2012 22:06

I like Dermalogica. Its always good when my skin is crappy.

KateSpade · 18/05/2012 22:06

Which cleanser is it, I've just ran out of the Ultra Calming cleanser, amazing but a bit too ''calming'' for my skin, so to speak.

WorraLiberty · 18/05/2012 22:08

I think I'm one of the only people I know who thinks that the less products you use on your skin, the better.

I just use water, baby wipes (to take make-up off) and Simple moisturiser if it's a bit dry.

My Mum was the same. The only thing that ever touched her face was water and Ponds cold cream.

Bunbaker · 18/05/2012 22:10

I have never spent that much on a cleanser and don't think I could justify the expense. I don't have problem skin and am happy to use any cleanser. I have been complimented on my skin and look younger than my years, so IMO you don't need to spend that much on a cleanser to get excellent results.

perceptionreality · 18/05/2012 22:10

You shouldn't use baby wipes on your face they leave a residue on your skin. I use baby wipes to clean my house and often wonder whether they actually do babies any good!

WorraLiberty · 18/05/2012 22:11

I love babywipes!

Before I started using them (about 20yrs ago) I used to use Johnsons baby lotion and cotton wool anyway.

Wipes are just easier.

Springforward · 18/05/2012 22:13

Annette, as the owner of utterly crap skin I say, if you can afford it, it works for you and lasts a good few months, it was worth it IMHO.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 18/05/2012 22:14

I love baby wipes too.

missmalteser · 18/05/2012 22:14

I think like most products you pay for what you get to a certain extent, and after that it's mostly brand power, I have very sensitive skin and don't mind investing a bit more on something to soothe it, but again it would need to be a wonder cleanser to justify anything over £20

AnnetteCurtain · 18/05/2012 22:15

It's the 'Special cleansing gel' I've bought. It's here on the side, imploring me to use it.
WorraLiberty - I love the idea of using hardly anything and I've been trying that for the last 6 months, but really feel my face needs a jolly good wash at the end of the day.

Perception can you tell me more about md formulations? Just googled an it does seem to have excellent reviews

perceptionreality · 18/05/2012 22:18

I think salon products are much better than what you can buy in Boots etc, although when broke I have been known to down grade temporarily to Nivea Q10 moisturiser which is not too bad and also has a decent SPF.

It depends how vain you are and whether you can afford it, but the salon stuff usually lasts longer anyway so may be worth the investment.

KateSpade · 18/05/2012 22:19

I'm going to buy that next!

perceptionreality · 18/05/2012 22:19

Annette - what is your skin type? Special cleanser can be a bit drying unless you have oily or combination skin imo. I assume you were guided on which was the right one for you though?

RubberBandit · 18/05/2012 22:21

YANBU

I occasionally feel guilty for spending so much on Dermalogica skincare and try to switch to a cheaper brand but I have really problematic skin (dry, sensitive, reactive, eczema prone) and it just looks shit and patchy and unhealthy with other products (even other premium brands like Elemis).

And you've just reminded me that I need to ordering ultra calming cleanser, so thanks for that :)

By the way, you can usually find Dermalogica cheaper online, if you decide you like it and want to buy it again. Try Salonskincare.com or Care4YourSkin.com

AnnetteCurtain · 18/05/2012 22:23

Perception - yes, I was guided today. I have combo skin. I think some spots paid testament to that. Was quite perturbed to have the woman put on magnifying glasses to inspect my skin!

missmalteser - MD Formulations contain AHAs which remove dead skin cells and also help to resurface the skin to some extent. I use their Vitamin A night recovery cream which is excellent. I can look rough one day, put that on for the night and wake up looking much better. My own beauty therapist says that iho it's the only brand that produces visible results, short of non-surgical procedures.

perceptionreality · 18/05/2012 22:25

It should be good then, try it out. It will make your skin feel very clean.

Ooh I would like to give that a go, and it seems very reasonably priced too, maybe that will be my first stop then dermalogica!

Pudgy2011 · 18/05/2012 22:30

I swear by the dermalogica products and use the special cleansing gel, the microfoliant, skin smoothing cream and a whole host of other gumpf from there (when I can afford it). When I first bought the stuff in bulk it came to a head spinning $450 or so but then I rationalise it that the last bottle of cleansing gel I bought was over a year ago.

Yes its expensive but very worth it - it makes me feel special too, I love the smell.

Asamumnonsense · 18/05/2012 22:31

Keep it!! Had a facial 3 months ago and the lady suggested Dermalogica. The clay cleanser was £25 and the mattifier was £42. I was shocked and almost cancelled the purchase but I thought I would give it a go. my skin was so bad and 3 months on Its been worth it. I still have a month before they finish and my skin feels amazing. £66 for 4 months, I think its not expensive considering you are buying great quality stuff that will last.
