To think that the Queen of England won't notice if my DD is wearing summer uniform and

texting me today about her wearing it tomorrow is too short notice?
Queenie is coming to our town tomorrow, DD was one of the lucky 35 to be drawn out of a bag to go to see her.
I've just had a text from the school advising winter uniform is to be worn. I only put her old one in the recycling bag two days ago.
Very cross.

Yes, if they are to stand about in the cold, winter uniform would probably be far more practical. It's freezing at the moment, dd1 has gone in her winter uniform every day this week.

The school probably wouldn't have expected that anybody would already have recycled their winter uniform so that's why they didn't give much notice. At our school not everybody has the summer uniform as it's optional, but everybody will have a winter uniform. They probably want them all to look the same.

How exciting for her, at that age, I'd have loved to meet the queen.

CervixWithASmile · 17/05/2012 09:15

God, people are so pedantic about the Queen of England thing.

loopylou6 · 17/05/2012 09:17

Yes, her royal one has been touring on her big boat, today she's going to Chester zoo. I must be near you lot too.

Mrsjay · 17/05/2012 09:22

I wasnt being pedantic i was being sarcastic Grin

CervixWithASmile · 17/05/2012 09:24

Sorry mrsJay, wasn't referring to you :)

Mrsjay · 17/05/2012 09:25

FayeGovan · 17/05/2012 09:43

Hullygully · 17/05/2012 09:45

Glad you got the uniform sorted out to keep your daughter happy.

As an aside, it would strike me as wrong if someone wrote the Queen of Scotland yet Queen of England is fairly well accepted. Strange. Not that I'd lose sleep over it, just musing.

ripsishere · 17/05/2012 09:59

Grin poor woman, it's raining like a bastard at the moment. Hopefully she's got her thermals on.
So dreary, but that's the NW for you.
DD was practicing her curtsy's yesterday. I don't know why, she's sitting in the audience watching a dance exhibition. But, in her words, 'you never know'.

I suppose if you want to be really pedantic you could say she is Queen Elizabeth the First of Scotland, ( or, Elizabeth Queen of Scots)seeing as the other Q Elizabeth wasn't ever queen of Scotland! Grin

However royal titles are Royal perogative apparently and she chooses to style herself Elizabeth the 2nd.

Pinot · 17/05/2012 10:10

I love Her Maj. I'm going to Buck Pal in June to see her diamonds
Can you ask DD to get me her autograph? :)

oohermrs · 17/05/2012 10:18

I met her during her silver jubilee think I must of been about 7. We went with school had to stand for hours. I remember being very jealous as my friend got to present a posy to the Queen. Envy

Well youre obviously English then. Because if you were Welsh or Scottish for example and you had seen her referred to the Queen of England on numerous occasions then I think it might bother you to. Again Im not losing sleep over it but just annoying because it implies the other countires in the UK arent as important as England.

ThatGhastlyWoman · 17/05/2012 10:29

Tell you what, I'm Scottish and I don't care if she is referred to as the Queen of England. They can keep her!

Don't get the excitement about 'meeting the Queen', personally. All this fretting about protocol and little details. But then I think it's pretty clear I'm no Royalist!

ripsishere · 17/05/2012 10:33

Me neither ghastly woman. DD was terrified I would not give permission to go and even had a little weep about it in anticipation of my reaction.

ripsishere · 17/05/2012 10:51

Please allow her to curtsy to you your maj. Not sure it will have the same effect in a less full grey skirt. Her red gingham dress had all the necessary volume for pulling it out to the side.

Pooka · 17/05/2012 10:51

Dd wanted me to give her a banknote to take when she went earlier in the week - she was hoping to ask the queen to autograph it! Grin

ripsishere · 17/05/2012 10:54

Some of the ideas they get about the royal family are barking mad aren't they?
When we lived in Thailand, we often went to Hua Hin where the King has a house.
DD and I used to walk past it while DH was away scuba diving. She always hung around a little too long by the gates. Her reasoning was he may drive out or be strolling around his grounds, notice her and invite her to live with him.

DeWe · 17/05/2012 11:00

I would suspect that if the school have only drawn 35 children, with probably a lot more wanting to go. And one of the children turns up in summer uniform after saying they must be in winter, then there is a risk they just choose someone else. Do you really want that potentially to happen?

HMTheQueen · 17/05/2012 11:01

Does your DD need somewhere to stay? I've got a couple of big empty Palaces........ Grin

ripsishere · 17/05/2012 11:01

Not at all, and it won't. I did manage to get her a grubby one out of lost property.
It's just the bloody timing. A day before she goes and two hours before school ended.
