To be annoyed that old people park in mother & child spaces?

There are never enough mother & child parking spaces where I shop - be it supermarket or shopping centre - so I've started to notice who is actually parked in those spaces. Well, I've noticed it's mostly old people with no children. The other day I was so annoyed by this that I confronted an old man parked in a mother &. child space at Morrisons having a fag in his car while his wife did the shopping. He got very angry and basically said that he had more right than me to park near the entrance because his wife had arthritis. This is not the first time that I see older people without kids abuse the parking facilities for mothers with young children. In fact it happens all the time and supermarket staff just turn a blind eye!
I have a three month old baby and a large car so really struggle to park in regular size spaces and take the buggy out. But AIBU?

Forgot to add they should be called extra wide spaces not p+c so no-one feels justified in thinking that the only need for more room is a baby or a registered disability. Come on OP - if you struggle yourself how can you not empathise with someone else's different struggle? Yabu

So have I ...

Maybe I'll try the double yellow up the road.

Or opposite a fire hydrant.

How about infront of the drop down at the fire station?

ShellyBoobs · 15/05/2012 16:24

I am almost wetting myself here at the talk of emails regarding fining people £60 for parking in the wrong fucking space in a fucking super-fucking-market carpark.

I actually would wet myself if someone tried to fine me for parking in the PFB spaces. Once I'd finishing wetting myself I'd rip up their worthless piece of paper and then zoom off in my big massive fuck off 4x4 to once again park wherever I fucking well like other than disabled spaces.

Grin

Keep it coming, I've been having a bad day and this thread is cheering me up no end, so thanks for starting it, OP.

PickledFanjoCat · 15/05/2012 16:31

I might go and block up the care home up the road, teach the old folk a lesson!

shellyboobs I pray that I am in the carpark the day you get a ticket. That would be a sight to behold.

Im going to trade in my punto for a range rover. Then go and take up four spaces in M&T and sunbathe on the roof with a nice fag and a jug of pimms.

TheUnMember · 15/05/2012 16:32

don't you feel guilty unmember. you have disabled spaces uuurrgghh words fail me.

Not in the least. I park where it is best suited to my needs. More often than not that's the p&c spaces.

OrmIrian · 15/05/2012 16:43

OP, doesn't the fact that so many people here, the vast majority of us parents, think you were wrong, suggest that perhaps you need to rethink?

TheUnMember · 15/05/2012 16:46

unmember I think you should look in the mirror, and have a good long think about yourself.

olimpia · 15/05/2012 16:47

No because most people were rude and insulted me vehemently and I don't take advice from people like these.

OP posts:
PickledFanjoCat · 15/05/2012 16:48

To be honest I am rethinking my stance, I didnt realise supermarket carparks were so dangerous. Fuck the oldies, I want back in!

PickledFanjoCat · 15/05/2012 16:48

A lot of people were just having a larf as well OP.

Sparklingbrook · 15/05/2012 16:50

Olimpia did say in the OP she was fairly new. We were all new once weren't we? Sad

RabidAnchovy · 15/05/2012 16:50

Maybe we should take the wheels off of old peoples cars Grin

olimpia · 15/05/2012 16:51

E.g. Some idiot said something along the lines that there are people who die of starvation and I'm such an ungrateful bitch for getting annoyed about a parking issue.
Hello?? ANY issue is nothing in comparison to dying of starvation. No discussion on this talk board makes sense if you compare it to dying of starvation!!

Love theses threads. OP, AIBU...? 99% of posters respond with a resounding YES!! OP gets the hump, tells people to fuck off and even says, I disagree with what everyone has said. OP I sincerely hope you never have to find out exactly how hard it can be to get a blue badge.

Oh, and for the record, YABU. And thick skinned. What did you hope to gain by asking for opinions when you refuse to listen to anybody else and are adamant you are right?

ShellyBoobs · 15/05/2012 16:54

PickledFanjoCat - shellyboobs I pray that I am in the carpark the day you get a ticket. That would be a sight to behold.

Which bit Pickled? The bit where I wet myself or where I rip up the ticket and zoom off?

Grin
Rindercella · 15/05/2012 16:56

In fairness to that argument Olimpia, this is a very first world problem isn't it? Wink

Dawndonna · 15/05/2012 16:57

Just as an aside. It has taken me six years to get my wheelchair using dd a blue badge. Here, if they think a parent/carer can lift, then you don't seem to get the badge. So no, it's not easy to get a blue badge even if you desperately need one.
Oh, and I too park in p&c spaces if I deem it necessary, something it often is, particularly when those without blue badges use the disabled spaces, often done. Don't see many perfectly able bodied people complaining about that though.

Sparklingbrook · 15/05/2012 16:58

-----------------

Draws line. Hides thread.

ScarlettAlexandra · 15/05/2012 16:59

and the problem with that is??

so no obe can have an issue with anything cause people are starving in africa Hmm

ScarlettAlexandra · 15/05/2012 17:00

no one, not obe

ScarlettAlexandra · 15/05/2012 17:02

again this thread is not about disabled spaces, you many feel the need to make it about it.

PickledFanjoCat · 15/05/2012 17:02

ALL OF IT Shellyboobs!

OP - it was never going to go well as you specifically mentioned old people and arthritis.

Never.

ShellyBoobs · 15/05/2012 17:04

I have reported each and every one of those who attacked me on a personal level and were so stupidly mean to me for just posting a genuine question. I hope MN headquarters ban you from posting...

Oh no!, I've only just seen this bit! Shock

PickledFanjoCat · 15/05/2012 17:04

I cant believe that anyone would email a supermarket to complain about pensioners parking in the mother and toddler spaces. Im so shocked!

Seriously! Really! Shocker!

TheUnMember · 15/05/2012 17:05

Took me about 6 years to get mine too, from diagnosis to getting a badge. Plus 5 years of struggling before even getting a diagnosis. Yet in all that time my condition never changed. People who say it's easy are either thick as pig shit or having a laugh.
