I've just been to a lovely 80th birthday, absolutely not a pile of poo.

Trills · 14/05/2012 09:39

YABU

Like many things, they are what you make them.

UnChartered · 14/05/2012 09:39

depends if people want to celebrate one with you or not, really.

Happy Birthday to you Mrsjay

I love birthdays and make a big deal about them especially my own

My birthday is coming up so I will have a meal out with my mates and then on the birthday Dh and the kids take me out for a meal. I always get lots of presents from DH.

Love it!!

NoMoreMarbles · 14/05/2012 09:45

WaitingForMe · 14/05/2012 09:48

I like Birthdays. DH gets some kind of party or trip somewhere special every year. I'm 30 this year and have hired a house for all my friends for the weekend.

Any excuse to celebrate for me, I love parties Grin

bronze · 14/05/2012 09:49

I agree op my 30th dh got made redundant and I'm still waiting for my present (not his fault)

Happy birthday Mrs Jay

toxicwaste · 14/05/2012 09:55

my 30th I got a mop and an ironing board cover from my bloke. and that was it! my 31st is coming up, can't say I am particularly looking forwards to it!

ditavonteesed · 14/05/2012 09:59

PurplePidjin · 14/05/2012 10:00

My 30th was only good because I booked to go see a band I love and drag the fact that other people might not

My Gran will be 91 on Saturday and will find out about the impending arrival of Great Grand Child #1. Hopefully pretty far from poo...

elliejjtiny · 14/05/2012 10:12

Happy Birthday Mrs J.

It's my birthday today. I'm just getting over an awful tummy bug and now DS3 has got it. DS1 is fine so still had to do the school run and the bus driver was cross with me because I had no change, just my season ticket for the other bus company and a £10 note. So on that basis I agree with the OP

Bramshott · 14/05/2012 10:23

I think it's about lowering your expectations. For me, birthdays are a welcome chance to have a drink midweek and possibly a cake with the kids after school - bliss!

Mrsjay · 14/05/2012 10:31

dita glad your feeling a bit better now , a charity i donated to have sent me a birthday card so that was nice Grin going to my mums later and my sister normally gets me something nice , and not practical ,mum will get me a cardi Smile

Darkling · 14/05/2012 11:00

I'm 30 soon and I'm expecting it to be a bit of a non event, which is pretty much the way I want it I don't really do birthdays, can't remember getting excited about one since I was about 12. The idea of a big party and fuss is not my idea of fun, I don't like being centre of attention and my DH is crap at present choosing so I've learned that it's best to treat myself to something I've been wanting and call that my birthday present. As long as I get to spend the day with DH and DD and get a takeaway so I have a night off from cooking then I'll be happy.

Pagwatch · 14/05/2012 11:04

Oh no, that's a bit sad. They should still be nice.

Tbh if I think my family are likely to be [meh] I would sort something out myself.

ditavonteesed · 14/05/2012 11:23

darkling, thats poo. I couldnt really lower my expectations much more, I want a present to open, just one, and I dont care what it is just somthing, dh is good,we went to ikea for meatballs yesterday and he bought me a lovely mirror and some fairy lights. It was just this morning when dd1 said arent you goin to open your presents and I had to say, I dont have any, made me feel a bit harumpfy as I sepnd so much time and efort making sure everybody else gets stuff to open.

going out for lunch with my friend now which should be nice and a couple of friends coming round for dinner tonight which will be lovely. just had a shower just so I can use the lovely body butter my borther bought me. :)

Esp when they are FANCY DRESS and half way across the country and you can't bring the kids and have to pay for expensive babysitting and accommodation to attend.

(and breathe...)

Rollersara · 14/05/2012 11:58

I'm with darkling, I hate being the centre of attention.

Although... Last year I organised a meal on my birthday, but not for my birthday, it was to celebrate the end of a major project at work. I went to the ladies and came back to see a card on my chair. I thought someone had remembered and was being discreet. I slipped it in my bag to open at home.

It was actually signed by everyone, they had all remembered and kept it quiet Blush. i was actually very touched!m

NoMoreMarbles · 14/05/2012 12:46

rollersara that was niceSmile in my last job I had 3 entire birthdays and not a soul acknowledged themSad I was in the stupid birthday club and helped with everyone else's birthday but me?
