to think that the keeping of dogs for domestic purposes should be banned.

That?s it really. I am sick to death of having to watch my feet to make sure I don?t accidentally tread in dog muck left to steam by some selfish, lazy dog owner. I resent not being able to take 2yo DS to the park directly opposite my house because it?s used as a dog exercise ground and you can?t play toddler football without the ball and toddler falling into said dog muck. I hate that every time we go to the slightly nicer park there?s at least one dog without a lead who decides to come and sniff DS and that while he backs away the owner stands there laughing that ?he?s only being friendly?. I loathe and detest the particularly ?friendly? dogs who lick DS while I drag him away, probably just after eating another dog?s poo or a dead rat or some other disgusting thing they just found. I have personally seen the scars left on a young child by a ?friendly? dog turning savage and ripping the toddler?s cheek off. The problem of people getting bored of their dogs and dumping them in rescue centres is sickening. The stories of dogs being bred to fight, being neglected, being bred for ?beauty? despite the ?beautiful? characteristics causing the animals pain and suffering are beyond belief.

IMO domestic dog owners as a general class have proved that they are irresponsible and selfish. Fear of treading in dog poo on a pavement or in a park is common to everyone and I am so, so sick of people blaming it on a tiny minority. Domestic dog owners can?t be trusted to be responsible so they shouldn?t have them, end of. People should only be allowed to keep dogs for working purposes ? guide dogs, sniffer dogs, police dogs, sheep dogs etc. - if they are licensed.

Did you mean that to sound so patronising?

GrahamTribe · 11/05/2012 21:49

You consider yourself to be "a total weirdo" by not valuing an innocent, defenceless pet's life over an antisocial human's, AThingInYourLife?. Ah, well, it's for you to call yourself names. I couldn't possibly comment.

GrimmaTheNome · 11/05/2012 21:51

People who are caught leaving dog shit around should have their dogs immediately removed and be banned from ever owning a dog again.

maybe on a first offence they should just have their noses rubbed in it?

AThingInYourLife · 11/05/2012 21:54

WIPE their feet?

No, they won't have to WIPE their feet.

I will have to take off their shoes, and fucking wash the disgusting shite off them.

And if I don't notice that there is shit all over them before they go indoors, I will have to wash shit off my floors.

Or I'll have to clean the wheels of the buggy to get the shit off it because some disgusting filthy fuckhead is too much of a lazy cunt to clean up after their fucking dog.

You can totally spot the people who let their dogs shit on grass verges, or leave the dribbly ones, or the ones that are a bit spread out.

Shit is filthy and disgusting.

And you're right, nobody's precious children should get covered in dog shit.

EVER. Because there is no fucking excuse for leaving dog shit in public places.

And if you think there is you should have your dog removed.

AThingInYourLife · 11/05/2012 21:55

"maybe on a first offence they should just have their noses rubbed in it?"

No, they should have their noses rubbed in it too.

And have it smeared all over them and their homes.

LineRunner · 11/05/2012 21:56

Sorry been at work, I am liking MrsBethel's plans.

fuckarama · 11/05/2012 21:56

What about the cat shit then?

Because no one's precious children should get covered in cat shit either.

Or fox shit.

Or badger shit.

FFS.

teatimesthree · 11/05/2012 22:03

"If we pass a person regardless of age & he starts sniffing & licking them & they don't like it I ALWAYS pull him to the side"

You see, this sums it up for me - sorry to shout but DON'T LET YOUR DOG START SNIFFING AND LICKING ANYBODY IN THE FIRST PLACE. Why the hell should anybody have to put up with that - and for every person who tells you that they don't like it, there will be another person with a stiff smile who is secretly really fucked off.

FWIW, I would be fine with a law that said that dogs whose owners didn't pick up their shit should be put down. If it is true that all responsible dog owners pick up their poo, then surely this shouldn't pose too much of a problem?

I am really Shock at the attitude and rudeness of dog owners on this thread. Particularly the denials that there is a problem with dog shit in towns. You clearly live somewhere very far away from me, and the other posters on this thread.

fuckarama · 11/05/2012 22:06

Well, as I think I and Squirtedperfumeupnoseinboots have said, we both live in Northern Ireland, where we have licensing and compulsory micro-chipping. And both of us, independently, have said there isn't a dog fouling problem here.

What about that is hard to understand?

The way we do it here obviously works.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2012 22:06

The pavements where I live aren't covered in shit.

AThingInYourLife · 11/05/2012 22:07

What about the catshit?

I don't think anyone is suggesting our children bathe in catshit. Cat shit causes different problems, ones we're not talking about now.

Shit from wild animals is not really the same, is it?

Do you think the fact that other animals also shit makes it OK for so many dogs to be allowed to shit in public places by their owners?

If a bird shits on my kid, that's a bit gross but nobody's fault.

If my kid gets shit all over their clothes because some selfish cunt didn't bother to pick up after their dog, it quite clearly IS somebody's fault.

And that somebody needs a clear message that their selfish cuntishness will not be tolerated.

fuckarama · 11/05/2012 22:09

Cat shit causes toxo, which is the disease that has been mentioned.

Any children digging in a sandpit can get covered in cat shit. In a playpark too. And yet no one goes after the owner of the cat. Why not?

How is that not an issue any more than dog shit is an issue?

AThingInYourLife · 11/05/2012 22:10

:o

PSML @ there not being a problem in Northern Ireland!

I live in Northern Ireland, and it is, without a shadow of a fucking doubt, the most shit smeared place I have ever lived. And I have lived in a lot of places.

People are utterly shameless about not bothering to pick up after their dogs.

It's a real problem.

It's well-known in media circles in NI that if you want to get the public worked up about something that really pisses them off, do a programme about dog shit on the streets and how the owners don't pick it up.

:o

"the way we do it here obviously works"

Ahaha ahhahahahahahahahahaha ahahahah

AThingInYourLife · 11/05/2012 22:12

Cat shit is also an issue. But the issue we're talking about here is dog shit.

fedupofdogANDcatpoo · 11/05/2012 22:12

Oh god, not this again! Have you heard the expression "two wrongs don't make a right", fuckerama?

I find cat shit just as annoying but that doesn't mean I'm going to say "oh all that dog shit is fine, after all it wouldn't be fair to criticise it when it's not the only kind around".

As this is really nothing to do with you because you're a perfect dog owner, then couldn't you be sympathetic towards all the people on here who find dogs where they live to be a problem but who even then don't think dogs should be banned? That's most of those people on this thread who've said they find dogs to be a pain where they are - only a minority agree with everything the OP said.

After all, people complaining about dogs running up, or poo not being picked up, are not complaining about you or your dog, are they? So why the need to put them down and imply they should just put up with it?

fuckarama · 11/05/2012 22:12

Oh right so me and perfume must be wrong then.

OKAAAAY

ObviouslyOblivious · 11/05/2012 22:12

I agree, everyone I know in NI with a dog just opens their back door, lets the dog out on the streets and lets them back in when they come back.

teatimesthree · 11/05/2012 22:13

Cat shit is disgusting, I agree.

But cats don't shit on pavements, and tend not to roam around public parks filling them with shit. (OK, so they are all out in our gardens doing it, but that's another thread.) My local park is full of dog shit. There is a sandpit in the playground, and there is no problem with cat shit whatsoever - because it's too far from people's houses, I suppose.

For me, the revolting thing about dog shit is the way that it ruins public spaces, and makes being out and about in the city a trial. Ask any local councillor - they will tell you than DOG shit is a huge issue. That doesn't make cat shit any less foul, but it is clearly less of an issue in people's lives.

crashdoll · 11/05/2012 22:13

I did, yes! I'm getting irritated with the select few who think it's perfectly acceptable to kil family pets for no good reason at all.

fuckarama · 11/05/2012 22:14

I don't see how a selfish cunt who fails to pick up after their cat is any different to a selfish cunt who fails to pick up after their dog.

GrahamTribe · 11/05/2012 22:15

tea, if I'm on a normal sized pavement with my dog I just walk past, no problem. If I'm on a narrow path/the person has a buggy or wandering small DC or looks remotely concerned I stand to the side, tell my dog to sit and politely let the person pass. My dog does nothing untoward, no sniffing, no going up to people, just sits there. Is that better for you? I'm sure it is. And I'm equally sure that while there are some twat owners out there I'm not alone in my way of handling passing people when out with a dog.

crashdoll · 11/05/2012 22:16

I am loving all the drama "shit smeared world" and "children covered in dog poo". I'd be interesting in seeing these places!

Sittinginthesun · 11/05/2012 22:19

Haven't read the whole thread - nothing against dogs in general BUT my Saturday was completely ruined last week when ds2 stood in dog poo up to his ankles with both feet, whilst watching his brother play football. Had to change all my plans for day to take him home to wash him, had to wash his shoes, which have been almost ruined as I had to practically soak them.

I was so angry!

Whoopydofoxpoo · 11/05/2012 22:20

That was a cow pat !

toboldlygo · 11/05/2012 22:22

Haven't said it yet on this thread but I'm going to say it now, as I have many times in the past - where do you all live that dog shit is such a problem?

I live in a touristy, busy rural town with a very large dog population. Every other house on this street and every adjacent street has a dog. Tourists bring their dogs on holiday here. We are surrounded by parks, footpaths, rights of way across arable and grazing land, National Trust land etc. where dogs can be exercised.

I walk 8-10 miles a day every day on this land and around town. I have never trodden in shit.

Similarly, while walking this distance every single day on three separate walks, at all times of day and night, encountering hundreds of dogs per year, the number of them causing any problem to me is... erm, one, in the past three years that I can recall. It came running up to me and pawed at me with muddy feet. I was livid. That's it. I am much more frequently inconvenienced by things like shoddy parking, my neighbour's screaming children, human litter etc. than I ever am by dogs and/or their shit.
