unless there is a GREAT BIG BOLD SPOILER WARNING

and a few blank lines to stop the eye from accidentally registering it anyway.

Shit. My blank lines didn't work.

For example, I was skimming the newly bumped Friends/Feminism thread and somebody has posted two spoilers about West Wing, tucked away innocuously half way through the thread.

I know to avoid the West Wing thread with the great big spoiler warning (although there'll be no stopping me once I've finished the boxed set). But it the Friends thread.

YANBU. I hate spoilers. I'm still mad at finding about what happened in the final of Homeland from a comment on a newspaper article made an entire week before it screened on our TV, so the person had downloaded it or watched it overseas first.

But, it does raise the question of how long after something airs do you have to put a spoiler warning?

BertieBotts · 10/05/2012 08:42

I think you should always put spoiler warnings.

LeBOF · 10/05/2012 08:45

It is polite to put a spoiler warning. But when a show has ended years ago, it's tough really. The Titanic sank.

Gumby · 10/05/2012 08:51

Friends?!

That was a billion years ago, surely everyone know how it ended

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 10/05/2012 08:54

It wasn't the ending for Friends that was given away Gumby, it was something to do with The West Wing that was given away. The OP didn't expect that to happen in a thread about Friends.

Tee2072 · 10/05/2012 09:00

But The West Wing has also been over for years. So even if you aren't expecting something about it in another thread, you can't really be mad you've been spoiled.

I know I assume people have seen shows that ended years ago. At some point you have to stop worrying about spoiling people. And I think the 6 years since the last West Wing is plenty of time.
