out of the people i know, the working class ones have spotless homes.

the middleclass ones seem alot more messier and nowhere near as spick and span.
they also tend to dress their children in odd socks etc.

anyone else noticed this?

how have you NEVER bought brown sauce ariel????

pickles35 · 10/05/2012 12:29

I know too many social workers to risk a dirty child. Im scared one of them will nab him.

DayToNightBarbie · 10/05/2012 12:30

I remember my mum saying years ago that she felt a sense of shame when she struggled with keeping the house tidy and that it was because she'd grown up with the working class culture of not "keeping a dirty house". She was amazed at her middle class friends apparent lack of embarassment about it.

I do think there's a slight class divide there, although maybe not as much as a generation ago. Also, having a sparkling clean house may be a lower middle class trait but to the people who refer to things or people as "common" or "lower class", the lower middle class and working class are one and the same.

Is brown sauce the same as fruity sauce? My DP likes to squirt brown sauce all over his bacon and he is way posher than me. Although if he was proper posh he would have kedgeree served from a dirty silver tureen.

Adverse there is an American study linking air-freshners to depression.
Sorry can't link.

thatisall · 10/05/2012 12:36

we working class people teach our children to put on their own socks....ready for the life of hard knocks. lmao

pickles35 · 10/05/2012 12:37

They are a terrible fire hazard apparently.

LST · 10/05/2012 12:39

I paint my steps and I like plug ins and Yankee candles. I open all my windows every morning too Blush

(I most defiantly am working class)

Oakmaiden · 10/05/2012 12:40

Well, my house is almost always a somewhat grotty tip. ?I try to keep up with the housework, but inevitably have more interesting and important things to do....

And my eldest son regularly wears odd socks. My daughter wouldn't dream of wearing odd socks though - and my youngest sopn only has grey socks, so you can't tell if they are odd. My own socks are all plain black, so again it doesn't show if they don't match.

I am very fairly middle class though...

OrmIrian · 10/05/2012 12:46

What all of them?

Gosh.

But at least you have finally defined my class for me Hmm Defiantly messy and MC.

doormat · 10/05/2012 12:48

LST are you me but i dont paint the steps..i karcher them lol....sorry but why does everything have to come down to class again....i have been in middle class homes that are spotless or shitholes same applies to working class....neither are any different....

LST · 10/05/2012 12:49

A window in every room except the one DS is in. Only for half an hour or so.

LST · 10/05/2012 12:51

I live in a council house to be honest I'm not bothered what class I am. If people see me and think my house is spotless I'd take it as a compliment Grin

doormat · 10/05/2012 12:52

same here LST, i love my yankee candles though..which ones do you have ?

Oakmaiden · 10/05/2012 12:52

No - this is great, really.

I'm not a lazy slattern - I'm just middles class Grin

LST · 10/05/2012 12:55

LST · 10/05/2012 12:55

cuteboots · 10/05/2012 13:00

I must be working class then! My house is clean but my car well thats another story!

LST · 10/05/2012 13:02

I do too! I treat myself to a new candle when the one I have gets about 3/4 down. I have the burning tarts too. I love love love the summer fruits ones.

I'm always squirting my beds and curtains with fabric freshner. I beam when people come in and do the whole air wick ad 'mmmm smells nice in here' Grin

doormat · 10/05/2012 13:02

dont these middle class slatterns hire a cleaner or are they too tight fistedGrin

pickles35 · 10/05/2012 13:04

I fink Yankee Candles are working class. Middle class folk probably just set fire to spare socks.

LST · 10/05/2012 13:05

Pickle Grin

Tbh I'd probably be able to get a cleaner if I stopped spending money on bloody candles!

doormat · 10/05/2012 13:07
