To think the school is ridiculous to not have a lost property box?

My sons clothes all have his names.

He misplaced hos coat last thursday, he said it was at home it wasnt then it was bank holiday weekend so we check hos peg this morning its not there, I go to the office and the conversation goes like so-

Me- Small Trash has lost hos coat? Is there a lost property box I can check.

Receptionist - No, theres no box.

Me- No lost property box?

R- nope.

Me- erm... So where does all the lost stuff go?

R - it gets left there.

Me- where?!

R- where the child left it. So they can find it again.

Me- but Ive only just realised its lost, he said it was at home, I assumed it was on his peg. Its not, so had it been outside in the wet all weekend?

R- it might have been put under the cover.

Me- youre serious? Theres no lost property box whatsoever and childrens items are just left where they are?

R - Yes, otherwise how would the child find it again?

Wtf?! Is this normal? Its senseless to me! My child is 5, he never knows where hes left anything!

They are lying!! They did have one but they have lost it!

That is v odd. Every school I have been in has had a bulging Lost Property box that parents are begged to look through before it all gets chucked out at the end of term.

How would the child find it again? Well they go to the lost property box wouldn't they??

How very wierd.

Lost property box = place we put things that no one is looking for (IME)

Does seem a bit crackers..

but then....wouldn't it just be easier for all parents to make sure that their child's stuff is labelled/named?! Your son's coat IS named, so I'm sure you'll get it back eventually :) (speaking as someone who picks up about 10 jumpers a day, all unnamed, and generally throws them into a big pile in the cloakroom ho hum!)

I was looking for something...

I've worked in schools with no lost property box. Lost stuff is the bane of my life. Generally, when a box exists, anything that is found is taken round every class looking for its owner. When no owner is found its off to LP.

In schools with no LP box, after it's passed around it becomes the teachers problem so I end up with a pile of unnamed jumpers in every size imaginable in the corner of my classroom.
