Was that par for the course during the seventies? Or unreasonable?

p.s. to the Country Life fans - it's two for £2.50 in the Co-op, I checked tonight. Might have to stork I man stock up

ToTheFarSideOfFuck · 08/05/2012 21:08

so it was as nice as I remember! I'm pleased. There was a variety of Sunny Delight (remember that!) that tasted quite similar, but of course that didn't last long.

Katiekitty · 08/05/2012 21:14

What about those tins of frozen orange juice concentrate you could get, surely I can't be imagining them?

Remove from freezer
Open tin
Ease frozen mass out with a knife
Leave to defrost
Dilute with water
Bingo! Orange drink!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 08/05/2012 21:16

What you had the luxury of stork on yer bread.... Dripping for us!

Stork as a treat melted into the Smash.

NowThenWreck · 08/05/2012 21:18

What was that awful orange syrupy stuff you used to get in a smallish glass bottle. Called Sun...something?
You added water to make "juice".
The lid used to go all radioactively dark orange and crusty.

Kewcumber · 08/05/2012 21:18

Oh I love Dairylea, and when I want some Dairylea and fresh beetroot sandwiches there's nothing better. Not sooooo keen on something which vaguely tastes a bit like Dairylea with my toast and jam in the mornings!

NowThenWreck · 08/05/2012 21:20

After that we used to get "fresh" orange in a bottle from the milkman, along with slightly fizzy yogurts.
Every time my ds gets petit filous I feel jealous, because that was for rich folks!
Ditto Ski yogurts.

Sparklingbrook · 08/05/2012 21:20

My Mum used to buy some sort of orange gloop from the Chemist that was like vv strong Orange.

bogeyface · 08/05/2012 21:32

:o @ Nowthen we never had ski yoghurts either!

I remember once seriously embarrassing my mum when she had a coffee morning...might have been a tupperware party thinking about it, and Dsis and I fell on the chocolate biscuits like we had never seen them before! We always had the basic, non brand names and thought people who ate McVities or Walkers or Kellogs were well posh 'n rich :o

We found out years later that she would buy the posh ones for herself and stash them!

Sparklingbrook · 08/05/2012 21:36

Oh yes Ski Yoghurts were dead posh.

We had Heinz Coleslaw and Potato Salad, they came in tins. Confused But only if there were people coming round. Also sticks of celery in a beer mug-with salt.

akaemmafrost · 08/05/2012 21:39

We were allowed a Ski Yoghurt once a week, we chose it when we did our weekly shop. I always had Black Cherry and dsis always had strawberry. I chose a Mr Men chocolate flavour one, one week and was bitterly disappointed. What with only having one yoghurt a week it was imperative that no mistakes were made. I stuck to Black Cherry until I was about 30 after that fiasco Grin.

akaemmafrost · 08/05/2012 21:40

Oooooh and Toast Toppers, anyone have those, they were lovely but only had them rarely. Also Bacon Grill that came in a can and my Mum would slice it up, grill it and we had it with chips, yum!

squeakytoy · 08/05/2012 22:02

Does anyone remember a packet orange juice type mix called 'rise and shine'? I used to absolutely love that stuff as it wasnt sweet.

I still get toast toppers, the cheese and ham one, and it is my favourite snack when I am feeling -hungover- a bit delicate...

KatoPotato · 08/05/2012 22:20

I renember golden churn, which then became golden crown - complete with flat lid instead of a butter churn top!

Spuddybean · 08/05/2012 22:27

ski yogurts tasted like emulsion paint.

My mum still uses stork on everything and calls it butter. Her crumble topping is legendarily disgusting.

She used to make st ivel gold and sugar sandwiches :( what the hell was wrong with people in the 70's!?

pictish · 08/05/2012 22:28

I have an old school friend who has a phobia of Stork marg!

When she was a little one, her mother worked, and my friend had to go to a classmate's house after school. The classmate's mother always handed over sliced white, spread with Stork as an after school snack, and would get annoyed if my friend didn't eat it.
She grew to dread the Stork sandwich battle, but was too scared to tell her mum how awful it was in case her mum got angry at her for not eating it too.

Anyway...upshot was, she would shudder, gag and sweat at the sight of a tub of Stork.

I have her on facebook....I wonder if she still does? I might ask her.

Methe · 08/05/2012 22:29

We always had Gold growing up. I don't actually remember it being that bad Blush

Mil still has sterilised milk.. It makes fucking grim cups of tea!
