Went to my Dad's grave today, man and 2 friends with cans of carlsberg shouting and laughing. I don't think this is on, or am I being daft?

Defo not on. Talk about a lack of respect. Personally I would have rung the non-emergency police number.

upahill · 07/05/2012 19:46

It depends why they were there tbh.

Don't shout me down!!!!

A few years ago on old fella from the village died. He knew he was dying and left about £100 for his mates 'to have a drink on him' literally!
They went up to the cemetary about 6 weeks after the funeral and had a mini party as instructed.

As a one off I would turn a blind eye. If they were the local dossers I wouldn't be happy.

FeedingTheBirds · 07/05/2012 19:49

Yes, I should have thought, agree with upahill. I assumed OP was just describing boozers on a bench.

BumpingFuglies · 07/05/2012 19:53

This was in the centre of the cemetery, where my Dad is. There are rows of graves and one bench. I don't think they were homeless people, but they were clearly drunk and not stood at a grave - they were on the road in between. It really made my visit unpleasant.

They might have been feedingthebirds*
It's not always easy to tell what is going on in a public place.

BumpingFuglies · 07/05/2012 19:58

With Carlsberg, upahill? Do birds like that Grin

I was replying to feedingthebirds saying that yes, they could indeed be the local dossers!

BumpingFuglies · 07/05/2012 20:09

I know, I'm sorry, but I don't think so. They were all well dressed, I didn't take much notice of what else they were doing. I'm probably BU. It just meant I could not spend time at my Dad's grave in peace.

I thought upahill had spotted me feeding the birds for a minute there Wink

BumpingFuglies · 07/05/2012 20:09

To be fair, it's not the kind of place you get drunks usually.

BumpingFuglies · 07/05/2012 20:10

Ah feeding I misinterpreted the post, sorry

Yeer daft devils!! Grin

FeedingTheBirds · 07/05/2012 20:13

Sadly our local cemetery is somewhat of a magnet for drunks. The police do a good job at moving them on but I am there once a week and there is always evidence of their presence, cans, bottles, carrier bags with same inside.

BumpingFuglies · 07/05/2012 20:13

Sorry Blush

Guess I'm still a bit grrrrr about it. Just don't think a place of rest is the right place for lager and laughs! Maybe I'm old fashioned?

Btw this was 10.30 this morn!

I once saw on 'Big Fat Gypsy Wedding' that there is a tradition in the traveller community of holding a party at the graveside on significant anniversarys.
You say they were well-dressed, could it have been something like that?

BumpingFuglies · 07/05/2012 20:20

Possibly, but I doubt it. I would like to think it was something like that, but it just seemed like they were there as an excuse for a drink. I don't know. Whatever it was, it made me feel properly shit. Just don't think it's the right place for a booze-up.
