It's a whole box of Enid Blyton books! Famous Five, St Claires, Mallory Towers, it's all here. Even the faraway tree! Only paperbacks, not much loved 1st editions or anything. What if they belong to my landlord though? (Wanders off down memory lane clutching a famous five book)

Happy Reading.

All my are long gone Sad

AgentZigzag · 05/05/2012 23:25

I'd ask, the LL must know they're there.

pinksomething · 05/05/2012 23:25

Oh! My sister has lost a box of these at some point over the years in a move!! I guess you can keep and enjoy them and if they turn out to belong to the landlord, you can give them back!

Sarcalogos · 05/05/2012 23:26

I would a)read them all.

B) check to see if they appeared on the house inventory.

wrestle with my conscience about whether or not to keep them

LemonTurd · 05/05/2012 23:27

You snooze, you lose. Finders, keepers and all that...

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2012 23:27

Oh I loved all of those books!

LadyWithEDS · 05/05/2012 23:27

Read them and put them back when you have finished.

fridakahlo · 05/05/2012 23:28

Since the box is sitting in the attic doing nothing I am sure your ll would not mind you having them. Ask and if he/she does get a bit sniffy offer him/her a fiver for them.

LowRegNumber · 05/05/2012 23:29

Do you rent the loft as well? A lot of houses don't include the loft for storage purposes. Personally I would say, read, look after and return in like condition when you leave. They are not yours so anything else would be theft.

BalloonTwister · 05/05/2012 23:31

Hmmm. I know previous tenant had a 3 year old boy, but by the yellowed pages they could have been up there YEARS.

I can't pinch them, i'll just read them. Pity dd is too young to appreciate them though. :(

ChaoticismyLife · 05/05/2012 23:35

I read and loved all those books as a child.

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2012 23:36

I have to say though that I read a Malory Towers book (my old fave) when I found it at a car boot sale.

And reading it as an adult just wasn't the same...in fact it spoiled my memory of it a bit because I found it to be reasonably shite Sad

I had fond memories of being eager to get to bed at night to read the next chapter whilst munching an apple Grin

QuintessentialShadows · 05/05/2012 23:36

I know exactly what is in the loft in the house we are letting.
It is actually out of bounds for the tenants, ie not mentioned in the rental agreement as part of what is at the tenants disposal.

Our rental property also has a loft, which is out of bounds for us. We respect that and dont go up there.

Dont steal the books!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/05/2012 23:36

Holy shit - I've just discovered Mallory Towers on Kindle.

AgentZigzag · 05/05/2012 23:37

I watched the comic strip version of the famous five the other night, five go mad on mescalin Grin

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/05/2012 23:38

ARGH it's NOT REAL

BalloonTwister · 05/05/2012 23:44

We do rent the loft, and have been here over a year. Nothing else up there, and this box was tucked away behind the water tank, all sad and lonely and forgotten.

Will not steal the books, but can't resist a little trip to Kirrin, and may have to drop in to Mallory towers on the way back. (Being very careful not to mark the pages on my way of course)

Oh no, Jareth that is a travesty :(

AlbertoFrog · 05/05/2012 23:49

Recently re-read the Magic Faraway Tree and it was everything I remembered.

Books should be read and used and loved. Sad to think of them being hidden away.

Enjoy your trip down memory lane OP.

I feel a trip to the library coming on.

LeBOF · 05/05/2012 23:52

How fantastic. They'll be the proper old ones where Darrell actually slapped Gwedoline six times at the swimming pool, instead of the sanitised version where she just grabs her by the shoulders. And June will lose her ten shilling note from her knickers rather than her pocket. Fabulous.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/05/2012 23:55

Ooh, and it won't be expurgated of all the unintentional double-entendres either- Miss Potts will once again know Alicia's wild tongue and grow weary of it!
