To go and see DH's parents leave on their balloon ride gift experience??

Seriously. Me, DH and two DC, aged 2.6 and 6months.

Don't do it? Why do you need to go?

are you mad?

phone them at lunchtime and ask how it went

who the bloody hell expects you all there at that time anyway??

pictish · 05/05/2012 22:31

Are you serious?

Whose idea what it for you all to go along?

Twinkleinmyeye · 05/05/2012 22:32

I've got no idea. We chipped in to buy the experience for them and somehow it's morphed into a fun family day out. I think we just didn't realise how early it would start. DBiL (21yo) who's coming with us has just heard the happy news. He's like Shock Hmm

I remember going to watch my DM leave on hers - top tip - stay in bed Wink

AgentZigzag · 05/05/2012 22:32

YY to phoning at lunchtime, 5.30's the middle of the chuffing night!

They can't want to torture you in this way, do they?

You should smash the alarms with a lump hammer change the times on the alarm clocks if your DH insists.

IWantSummer · 05/05/2012 22:34

Let DH take the DC

pictish · 05/05/2012 22:34

Gah. It's too late to back out now.
Bad luck.

BackforGood · 05/05/2012 22:35

YwouldBU to go IMO!

That's a ridiculous suggestion! Shock

Twinkleinmyeye · 05/05/2012 22:35

Sorry, the "I don't know" was for natasha. PiL have invited us all along with the idea of Sunday dinner after they land. It will be lovely. :o they're just very energetic and slightly insane

Evil but effective Summer Grin

You can tell your DH you'd give him a nudge when it's time for him to get up OP, just to be helpful like Grin

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 05/05/2012 22:40

You don't need to get up at 6.30 for lunch though - just tell them you will meet them at the pub/restaurant as the children will be grumpy if they are woken then the youngest misses her morning nap as well :) DH can go if he feels so inclined...

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 05/05/2012 22:41

Sorry 5.30 - even worse! No way I'd be waking the babies up to do that - they will be grumpy all day!

Hassled · 05/05/2012 22:43

DCs and I saw DH take off and it was all quite exciting, in fairness. But it was at a civilised time of day.

OhdearNigel · 05/05/2012 22:44

DH does casual ground crewing for the Leeds Castle balloon. He sometimes has to leave at 3.30am for dawn flights Wink

Family/friends are allowed to see the balloon off - it's very gentle, they just untie the ropes and off it goes.

Where are you flying from ?

fivegomadindorset · 05/05/2012 22:44

A friends balloon ride was cancelled today so I am thinking that theirs maybe too.

MagicHouse · 05/05/2012 22:49

That's a ridiculous suggestion! They won't have any idea of where they might land anyway - so won't be able to sort out meeting up til they know on the flight which way the wind's blowing and how fast!
They'll take off and leave and you'll be left in the cold to pack up and take your little ones home again.
Tell them to take pics and show you! :)

OhdearNigel · 05/05/2012 22:49

They should know by now for a dawn ride - the pilot will know the weather/wind speeds and directions which is what they use to calculate whether it's safe to fly

OhdearNigel · 05/05/2012 22:50

DHs flight line is always finally confirmed by 10pm the evening before a morning flight

MrsSnaplegs · 06/05/2012 05:42

So are you up yet?Grin

maddening · 06/05/2012 06:18

can't you all just get there for the landing?

Tee2072 · 06/05/2012 07:09

I hope you just went for the dinner and have just gotten up and are enjoying a cup of coffee/tea and some breakfast.

Twinkleinmyeye · 06/05/2012 12:43

Nope, though we left late and just made it in time to wave them off. Then had breakfast at a Little Chef (Grin) and hung around till they got back to the field they'd taken off from 4 hours earlier. Sigh. Everyone's gone back to bed before dinner.

OP posts:
angeltattoo · 06/05/2012 15:54

Erm, we have done this and our meet ime was 5.30 also.

We landed at 9 am and went for breakfast!

Absolutely no need for you to wave them off. You are NBU.

stay in bed
